Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

If he interviewed and was told that it was a formality, or informed that we're "going in a different direction" he would deny interviewing. Someone posted much earlier in one of these threads that somehow "the coach the AD hires was always first on their list; and no coach was ever turned down for the job."

This, if he admitted to interviewing but basically knew he wasn't getting the job that would look bad for him.

How could a deal that has been in the works for quit some time, suddenly fall to pieces? So much time, energy, and money was put into making this happen. It doesn't make sense to me.

You said it better than I did, but we share the delusion

:hi:

Just trying to look at things logically. Too much of this whole ordeal does not add up, which leads me to believe that it is all a farce to buy time.

Guess we'll find out sometime between now and Christmas!

Kids being recruiting now are looking for big name programs or big name coaches. The top recruits in this state don't even have UT in their top 5. These 16-18 year old don't remember when we were a powerhouse. Most of them only remember mediocrity. We have become Kentucky. That's why we NEED Gruden...much more than he needs us!

That's why some people still think there's a chance. But what if our team can't agree?

That's where I'm going with this. It looks like the power guys are split on whether or not to pull the trigger. Sure seems like Big Jim is a believer in Dave Hart's process, at least until they're sure they can't get a better deal. Other boosters probably were ready to get this whole thing done. It can't be Hart vs. the boosters, otherwise it would be over. It's Hart, and someone very powerful who agrees with him vs. the boosters. That seems like the most likely scenario.
In a very literal sense, it isn't over until over. I still believe that Hart is going to bring Big Jim an acceptable list, and if Haslam still thinks Gruden and his demands are the better way to go, that's the way they'll go.

Im not sold on strong.. strong record at Louisville. 23 n 14 petrino was 41 n 9.. wtf would we want strong when petrino ran circles around him.. I know I've been drinking but please persuade me..

Part of the reason is the teams they inherited. John L Smith had Louisville a decent football team before Petrino took over. Smith left on his own to go to Michigan St. Strong took over a team that was down under Kragthrope and had to rebuild it. Kragthrope was fired due to this.

Don't let it get to ya man. There's "a lot" of things people do not know... I believe those things will come out once this is all over and everyone will understand. Just stay positive Patrick, good things are ahead for us!

Yes -- there is much we don't know. Heck, somebody knows, just not me!

That's why some people still think there's a chance. But what if our team can't agree?

Then we take a deep breath and pause for a little while and perform interviews and let everyone cool down and think about things. Like Balboa said, "that's how winning gets done!"

Sorry, for all the positivity I'm sure it's annoying, but this isn't a time to be upset.

Quoting myself for the night crew that missed it this morning.

With the addition of: if Hart really was pissed about the end around by the boosters, why did he go ahead and fire Dooley before Kentucky like, presumably, the booster's wanted? If didn't have his guy, he would have waited until after Kentucky to start the coaching search clock. (And him being super pissed goes against part of his press conference where he talks about this search taking many people, I believe.)

If you take what Slice is saying about the money from the boosters is only for this one hire for the most part, and it hasn't been returned from escrow, I'd say I feel pretty good about our odds.

But I guess I'm just being delusional.

well the gruden deal/no deal just blew all to hell thursday night and escrow funds are not returned like a pair of shoes to dillards.

Has anybody stopped to think about how this search would have unfolded prior to the Internet? You would only get your information in the morning paper and local radio. I was thinking that we hired Majors and Fulmer under very different social circumstances.

This, if he admitted to interviewing but basically knew he wasn't getting the job that would look bad for him.

He has a full official visit weekend on campus. It's much more likely he just told a white lie. A "talk" that doesn't take place on the schools campus is often times not considered an interview.

I want to restate my earlier post. People like our $$$ boosters are used to winning business deals. They don't get "close" and then walk away. If there really was/is a deal to be had, it will get done. Somebody would call Gruden directly, be the good cop, and tell him let's meet in the middle and close this thing.

And if Hart is a problem, they will can him. They canned Johnny freaking Majors for goodness sakes, so they will remove Hart in a heartbeat if necessary.

But, this comes down to the fundamental issue that carter, Bruin and Leonard Little have all touched on: Does Jon Gruden really and truly want this job? Or, was he playing along for some reason? Because, if he wants the job, he will tell his agent to get reasonable and close the deal.

Not if Hart is an arsss. and perhaps now Gruden does not want to report to Hart for that reason which would mean no deal!!

Liper, who is the alpha dog in the whole group? Is it Haslam? He needs to take the lead, rally the support he needs, put Hart in his place, and then get on a plane and meets with Gruden personally. The parties meet somewhere in the middle and sign the contract.

why doesnt ut just use a smoke screen press conference like naming jim chaney interm coach for the time being, that will really settle rumors i think. then they have alot of time but i wouldnt expect it more then two weeks. sounds like an idea. i dont think the tenn alumni realize how much of a problem there gonna have with gruden not being named head coach.

Half the stadium would let season tickets go if they announce Chaney. I don't mean to be harsh his actually a very good oc and would be glad for him to stay for that, but he's no HC on SEC level yet.

I don't exactly know what "the split" is about. I would like to who and what was so disagreeable. I'm now less inclined to buy the story that Hart and The Man were in agreement based on events just a week ago. It's confusing to me.

They already did that..save the Hart portion. Hence, my confusion.
