Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

Just hopped back on the boards after the meltdown Thursday night. I don't get out much these days, but a beer anywhere sounds good right now after this disappointment.:)

As I've said before, Hart has a cross to bear with this situation. Let's just assume the best: let's say he did everything he could. He courted Gruden, worked with the boosters, and tried to make a deal happen. Given the remote chance all that actually happened, he STILL left all of our d1cks hanging in the wind for several weeks to get ridiculed, he STILL left us open for public criticism from Gruden's jack wagon agent, and he still never came to our defense after it all happened.

F'ck him and the horse he rode in on. He needs to go.

Ive gotta say that there is so much **** to wade thru on these message boards that its almost a waste of time, but i keep hoping there is a chance that the gruden deal is alive somehow, someway. There hasnt been much in the way of real media reports on this job at all tho and that is strange to say the least. Only things ive heard actually do link gruden to the job - notably cbs station out of memphis. Surely they dont just say things without checking them closely first. With all the hype surrounding this job u would think there would be something said almost daily, but there isnt. Maybe we should consider who the largest supplier of sports info is and that could explain why there is no coverage. Do u know how pissed espn would be to learn that gruden left their best job (besides herbstreit's) to coach at tn? That would be hilarious wouldnt it?

Yes -- there is much we don't know. Heck, somebody knows, just not me!

Truth.....I've never been a conspiracy theorist....but this is straight out looney.....I'll say this....Hart can only get his butt handed to him or look like a genius who knew what he was doing(Gruden).

There is no middle space at this point. I'm not the smartest guy in the world(UTK '96) and conspiracy theories never intrigue me but it just points to Gruden to me. It just doesn't seem like he's pulling the trigger for a reason.

That's why some people still think there's a chance. But what if our team can't agree?

That's my worry. They want him, but it's gonna cost so much that if, for some reason, gru doesn't succeed as expected, the university as a whole could take a hit.

I could see Bill Haslam being cautious on that.

:hi:

Just trying to look at things logically. Too much of this whole ordeal does not add up, which leads me to believe that it is all a farce to buy time.

Guess we'll find out sometime between now and Christmas!

I'm currently on a visit to Vegas. Tomorrow AM I'm going to see what kind of bet I can place on the Gruden hire. Might get some really good odds!

LOL I hear ya man

Don't let it get to ya man. There's "a lot" of things people do not know... I believe those things will come out once this is all over and everyone will understand. Just stay positive Patrick, good things are ahead for us!

Fingers crossed!

Cross my heart!

Thrown in a few hail mary's as well!

That's where I'm going with this. It looks like the power guys are split on whether or not to pull the trigger. Sure seems like Big Jim is a believer in Dave Hart's process, at least until they're sure they can't get a better deal. Other boosters probably were ready to get this whole thing done. It can't be Hart vs. the boosters, otherwise it would be over. It's Hart, and someone very powerful who agrees with him vs. the boosters. That seems like the most likely scenario.
In a very literal sense, it isn't over until over. I still believe that Hart is going to bring Big Jim an acceptable list, and if Haslam still thinks Gruden and his demands are the better way to go, that's the way they'll go.

Great insight my dude!

It sounds like Hart hasn't talked to any one even grudens agent (wink wink)

Red Wolf hasn't interviewed anyone. He might get started with the process next week, but then again he might wait till after Christmas. I mean come on, we still have 2 more months before national signing day. What's the hurry?

He was interested. It didn't work out. Is this hard? RT @brandonbutler81: You post contradictory info, Gruden is interested, not interested.

Has anybody stopped to think about how this search would have unfolded prior to the Internet? You would only get your information in the morning paper and local radio. I was thinking that we hired Majors and Fulmer under very different social circumstances.

Head coaches were still ADs and alumni were favored, different era where school pride meant something to do with the school still, will never be that way again now it's a buisiness. a billion dollar one. it's not much diff then nfl just diff rules.....kids come from everywhere alma mater means little, and loyalty is ZERO.... Pardon my bitter view.

They already did that..save the Hart portion. Hence, my confusion.

You know, Basilio wrote a blog a week or so ago (I know, I know), but it said something interesting--along the lines that Hart was going to interview and then submit a list of three candidates to the $$$ along with Gruden so they would have choices.

Is it possible this is the plan playing out here? See who Hart can churn up before pulling the trigger on a really expensive Gruden deal? It would make a lot of sense.

That's the framework Basilio was talking about a week ago. I have no idea whether or not it is still operative.

Then we take a deep breath and pause for a little while and perform interviews and let everyone cool down and think about things. Like Balboa said, "that's how winning gets done!"

Sorry, for all the positivity I'm sure it's annoying, but this isn't a time to be upset.

Thanks for the good vibes and encouragement! I really need it!!!!

I want Tennessee to be relevant again in football!
