Because Haslam is probably the only guy who has Hart's back right now, otherwise this would have been O.V.A. by now. Just my $.02, not a shot.

Haslam is friends with gruden, self proclaimed, he was supposedly the one that gauged initial interest in Atlanta with Peyton... makes 0 sense

@wesrucker247 Gruden claims to love UT, wife went here, etc. Helps out at camps. If he wasn't interested which is more likely...

Wes Rucker ‏@wesrucker247
@kevinmulligan Disagreements on money for his AND his staff, plus some control issues. Plus ... he's just more comfy in the NFL. Simple.

You know, Basilio wrote a blog a week or so ago (I know, I know), but it said something interesting--along the lines that Hart was going to interview and then submit a list of three candidates to the $$$ along with Gruden so they would have choices.

Is it possible this is the plan playing out here? See who Hart can churn up before pulling the trigger on a really expensive Gruden deal? It would make a lot of sense.

I think honestly that that was the plan all along.
If so great. Hart can take some heat and come out in the vanguard when the king takes the hill.

If he baulked over a Change in the timeline or plan and messed it up....bad.

Was it really just the assistants' salaries? Because another poster made it seem like Gruden kept moving the goalposts after his latest demands were met.

I've been involved in several $50-90m contracts for major capital projects and I can tell you getting a contract is never easy. A lot of people think that we're just hiring someone for a job. I don't think that's the case at all. We're contracting a Project Manager and he will live and die by the success or lack thereof of the project. There are a lot of details that have to be considered because those details contribute directly to the success or failure of the project. If we tie the Project Manager's hands then we have to accept the liabiliity associated with the project. Most times we try to work with shared incentives and shared liabilities. The point is there are considerations on both sides that most people live their whole lives without having a clue as to how things work and get done. If there are issues unresolved it doesn't mean we can't hire the coach it means that we have enough agreement between the two parties that we can issue a temporary release to start work while we finalize the outstanding issues of the contract. In many projects that final contract can take months after the start of work before it's signed by both parties.

I cannot reiterate this enough...

$18 million was NOT for Strong or Fisher

UTAD on super secret squirrel lock down for almost 2 weeks

A credible report release the JG has accepted an offer

Both parties deny reports

Now we have a coaching search that is semi-public??

Fill in the blanks folks....the JG issue not dead by any means

Unrelated, but I want to tell you... Myron just opened a high profile joint not far from my place here in Miami. I know he's not actually in the restaurant, but let's just say this restaurant wouldn't win any trophies. Not bad, not great, and sort of all over the place with the regional BBQ (burnt ends from KC, Texas brisket–which I have to say did NOT impress me, being from TX–pulled pork from you know where). I bet your buddy's BBQ is waaaayyyy better than this.

Kind of like Nola, Emeril's place in N.O. I guess...the name is there but the talent isn't..

He raises his own hogs. No feed mill grain. Lets them run free-range through his woods and then lets them finish on acorns, chestnuts and his garden plots.

Gawd...

I have my own theories but with the shortage of facts and not knowing whom to believe, and another 1/4 bottle of bourbon in me, I think it's time someone post Butterface and call it an evening Gentlemen.

I'll leave a tiny sliver of hope on the gruden deal till it's over just because the whole thing doesn't add or make sense right now. Right now it clearly looks like at the least hart and UT did a bad job with PR and we are getting laughed at with no response. Maybe they went to the mat united or maybe Hart and some boosters balked. Either way PR still looks bad unless this is the best smoke and mirrors ploy ever. No matter what all eyes are on you Mr.Hart and it better be good. GO VOLS:rock:

and my queston is this....If Hart knows he had his man(JG) does he even care if he's taking all kinds of lumps right now?

I wouldn't....

Just my opinion....he can either look like a hero or a complete jackass and be absolutely burned at the stake...remember the hire he makes has to be approved...he cannot just hire anybody.....

Granted. I'm just saying he wants to be sure he's doing the best thing with his money before acceding to the demands that would sign over AD control to Gru for $5 mill+ a year. On the off chance that things went badly, UT would be powerless to do anything about it (i.e., firing a DC or an RBs coach). Again, if Haslam thought Gruden was his guy, he would have made sure that's who we got by now, otherwise Blackburn would be AD like, yesterday. I think Hart successfully convinced him to allow for due diligence before making a final decision.

I guess everyone and their brother has a "source" but nobody ever names the source. Yall act like ur freakin lawyers who refuse to give up your contacts.....give me a break! I work closely with a large group of doctors in jackson, tn at the 3rd largest hospital group in the state and they are all UT boosters. I would say big boosters, but in the grand scheme they may be a dime a dozen for this university. We talk daily about this crap and every one of them says thay gruden has been the only man that they have heard mentioned seriously. They dont know any specs at all and that makes me very skeptical about other peoples "sources". These guys are top tier docs and completely loaded, all with season tix and pictures of themselves with fulmer, the kiffins, dooley etc. One was even a trainer for the vols during home games in late 90's and they dont know ANYTHINY CONCRETE AT ALL. Is there anybody who has any REAL info and can say where they got that info so we know its not just more BS? I would bet the answer is no because no one who knows is talking. Wether thats good or bad its the truth. I am really getting nervous about this hart vs boosters thing and im praying we dont screw the pooch again with this hire. Sorry for sounding harsch but i am to the point that i dont want to hear this phantom s**t anymore. I want something concrete....if there is anything at this point.

That makes sense..

So how do you feel about the guy saying you would be happy with the coach..

You think there is anyone we're not thinking of it could be?

Didn't get much impression. Accept perhaps it might be somebody we weren't looking for? Comment was made perhaps the Gruden thing was helpful in getting it done...whatever the heck that meant. But gave me pause. I wouldn't get too hung up on my statement about about a coach being retained. Not sure everyone is on the up and up with each other internally right now. I'm very cautious about believing anything I hear right now unless it comes from a couple of places that are way up.

Bill and Jimmy are different. Jimmy is big money, Bill is the gov and chair of the BOT. Bill would be coming from more of an institutional side, whereas Jimmy would be money. I think they're saying Bill might have backed off and sided with Hart, and that's where it shut down.

No info on that, just theorizing.

Head coaches were still ADs and alumni were favored, different era where school pride meant something to do with the school still, will never be that way again now it's a buisiness. a billion dollar one. it's not much diff then nfl just diff rules.....kids come from everywhere alma mater means little, and loyalty is ZERO.... Pardon my bitter view.

No apology needed. I agree with you completely. I miss the days when Neyland didn't have advertisements everywhere. I liked the purity of the game of football before all the lucrative money contracts.

Amen......I like Charlie Strong but you don't need 6 million extra bucks a year for him and his staff.....

I deal in negotiations over federal appropriations and defense contracts. Your assessment is spot on and I endorse this 100%, fwiw.

Sorry to comment on my own post, and this is my last one for the night.

The problem with the approach listed above is that it is like looking a gift horse in the mouth. If you are at a bar, meet a Victoria's Secret model at 10:30, and she invites you back to her place--you don't tell her to wait around until closing time while you scope out the other girls in the bar.

To answer your question, The answer is Nope.:)

Just heard info from a friend. He said that the hold up on assistants contracts was due to the amount Gruden wanted to pay Chris Carter. Gruden had given Carter his word that he would be on the staff, and Hart didn’t want to pay Carter what Gruden thought he was worth.

I really think this thing was close, and it fell apart late. Really sucks, I think Gruden would have put us in the upper echelon of programs. If true it really hurts to know it was this close!!!!
