Sorry to comment on my own post, and this is my last one for the night.

The problem with the approach listed above is that it is like looking a gift horse in the mouth. If you are at a bar, meet a Victoria's Secret model at 10:30, and she invites you back to her place--you don't tell her to wait around until closing time while you scope out the other girls in the bar.

Agreed, if you just want a sticky banana. But, if you're looking for a wife, you might take some time to look around.

UT is absolutely a premier job. The facilities are SECOND TO NONE. There are more billionare and millionare boosters than u can shake a stick at. UT historically is a top ten program not that far removed from a natl champ and several SEC titles. We play in the top conf in the country and fill nfl rosters as well as anybody. We even have our own navy for cryin out loud. Can someone please explain to me why coaches arent beating down the door to get this job and the likely 5+million that accompany it? And why is there absolutely zero info on espn unless they are throwing out some losers like smart, strong, or gundy? WTF is going on? Am i missing something here?

Continuing the NFL analogy the top 3-4 Boosters are the defacto owners of this team, Jimmy being chief among them. The idea that Hart faced him down on anything is ludicrous. It would be akin to hearing that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had faced down the Ayatollah and clerics and said Mohammad could go eff himself. It would be suicide. Whatever is going on that dog just don't hunt.

Jimmy does want to win he loves Tn Vols as much as anyone here he will push for the best course he sees. Like many owners and powerful people though his power sometimes secludes him from hearing frank facts and truth. I only hope he and Charlie are on same page. If so Gruden may still be a possibility, or Gruden and his rather less then ethical agent got greedy and pushed done point too far, and thus pissed off the above mentioned in which case it's a dead fish....and just hope they take the time to get a quality replacement. Just what is in my bourbon soaked grey matter ATM.

Mine is soaked in single malt Macallan 12 year...

No disagreement here.
But I would also add that Bill has to play his cards veeeerrryyyy carefully here. Don't know if anyone remembers, but Joe Manchin and Mitch McConnell were both looked at (officially, as in investigated) for their involvement in jockeying for their respective institutions to get into the Big XII.
I know Bill's got a job as Gov., but if he plays his hand too heavily in this, he'll have a whole other set of headaches to deal with other than an AD who won't play ball.

That's very true.

This...JG is an employee of ESPN. No other school searching for a coach is on our predicament. ESPN is the supreme powerhouse of sports reporting and doesn't want their most popular celebrity dropping them like a hot rock. Correct me if im wrong, but didnt Urban Meyer do the same thing? I doubt ESPN wants that to happen again.

I think I saw a post stating that several of the coaches from the Browns organization are represented by none other than Lamonte. I just found that interesting.

If this is true, and jimmy and Lamonte have worked together before, lamontes fantasy land comment makes even less sense. Why would he do that if he represents people who work for jimmy and want jimmy to pay them as much as possible??

My guess is that the old adage "nobody wants to adopt another man's child," applies here. Everything you said is true, but it would take a steel set or a real glutton for punishment to fix the mess we're in and put Saban, Muschamp, Richt, and Miles in their places. Not to mention, of all the premier programs in the SEC, we're probably locked in the most difficult spot to recruit (geographically).

We need someone who isn't gonna back down and WANTS to embrace and be a part of this great tradition we call the Big Orange.

Also, ESPN is butthurt because we're going after their guy, and they're notorious for shaping the facts to fit their interests.

This guy is pretty funny....:)

Why would I want my yard boy to coach my football team? RT @grassgoober: hire Fulmer again and pay him in Krispy Kreme gift cards.

We Skyped in sign language, ultra rogue MT @Jason_Higdon: I spoke to Charlie 3 times. He says there was no interview yesterday or today.

@JaysonSwain You don't have a damn clue what I'm thinking, and I'm pretty sure I don't have a clue either.

Just lettin you guys know..we started an Official Night Shift thread in the pub. If you guys want to hang out come on over. We wanted to get one started before this one dies.

I'm not impressed with any of the other names out there. I would feel tanted if peterno where hired , strong would have been a solid choice in place of hirering CDD. Gundy I would be OK with but not happy. At this time with with new teams joining the conf and playoffs starting and it being so long ago since being a power in the SEC , we HAVE to get this right this time. There's only 1 name out there that would unify this fan base and just 1 guy IMO that would "fit" for this hire... I mean for me its just hard to picture some of the other guys on the list being a coach here and wearing the orange and reading the maxims. Gruden is the only one that "fits" IMO. Sorry for bad sentence structure and misspellings. To tired to care.. gruden2012

Good analogy. I trust the boosters are in the know from Hart if not he's absolutely done. I'd say over 75% of the fan base wants Gruden, I don't know the number but it's pretty damn high. He's got a bill of goods to sell and he can't trot out Fisher or Gundy without top level approval, period.

The only person that can verify this is Evan Woodberry....period....did Lemonte make a statement to ESPN.....no.......but somehow Woodberry has the scoop.....

Remember folks Hart has to have his hire approved he can't just hire his guy.......that's just the way it works.....

There's more to this than Hart has the juice and power according to Skeeter and the likes.

Fast forward to 6:15. Also, this is not the only interview he isn't against coaching college.

I think what people miss is that anything and everything that can have an impact good or bad on the football program is on the negotiating table and more so with a high caliber candidate. In other words the more capable your target for the contract is the more sophisticated and thus more challenging it is going to be to get to a final signed document.

We live in a sound-bite world with texting and message boards and the like.....

The difference in my view this
time as opposed to the last hire is Gruden
has done his homework and knows what he needs to succeed and Dooley just wanted the job. jmo.

Which is exactly what a great coach is gonna do. It is his end and it sounds like Gruden has done it

The question is Does UT want it.

Maybe babyvol was just making a point:
