bcater, no worries. I have no ill will toward you or anyone who brought information to this thread. We all have free will and if we chose to believe that is on us. My thoughts about all the sources is this: Gruden to any college would have been the biggest coup in college sports, when his name began being brandied about, with or without cause, everyone was misled because this is the type of hire that would affect college sports and NFL and would need to be kept on the downlow. This is also negotiations...the misinformation and no access to information was probably just due dillegence for those involved in the search and was never about Gruden but part of the process. Everyone's eagerness for Gruden led people to add that curve to it and it probably never was there as much as we thought. I do believe that Gruden was in play but will probably never know exactly how much.

Just sharing man. I know this thread is for discussion that pertains to him still coming only. I'll bow out for the day now. Been here a long time and felt like talking about it. Have a good one everyone!

I just am saddened by the assertion constantly that UT football is dead with any other coach. That's such a terrible attitude imo. I have tried to make myself stop reading this thread but need rehab I guess.

Manning is a prominent ut booster. Thats all i know. He has said before he thinks gruden would be a good hire. I am trying to piece togeather this reporter who.is adement about his source who.said.he was directly involved in the situation. My only conclusion is it is a prominent booster who is a former player who has alot to say about who is hired. In my conclusion there is only one person. This journalist is risking his career standing by what he said. If this thing does not go through it is because UT dropped the ball.

I understand bcarter..I consider you a great poster and I like to hear from you .... I have no real asssertion that Gruden is coming.... as i have said, I think it must be Strong... but I am still holding out a glimmer of hope as many here are

I hope for Gruden but know its not likely. Same as all the people that bought PowerBall tickets the other night. The hoped they would win but knew it was unlikely.

In the Dooley presser, did Hart not make mention of the qualifications we would be seeking in the next HC at UT? Did he not also say something along the lines of if you are a proven winner and you want to compete for NC, come to the university of TN?

I guess by my showing up here and reading this thread, I still have some kind of hope. It could be hope like I hoped I was going to win the Powerball after buying five tickets.

My one, true hope, even if Gruden did not happen, was that the University show a commitment to winning in this football program comparable to Alabama's and Florida's. Having talked to a lot of friends who are season ticket holders and minor boosters, I can say a lot of them are fed up and will not be renewing if UT doesn't get this right.

I think I saw where DocVol said if Hamilton was the AD still, that he'd pulled the trigger. From other post it seems Doc is very well connected, so if he had enough info to feel that way then there must have been a very serious offer exchanged. I would have to think it got a lot closer than most are saying now. Heck, I think Hart should be fired anyway for letting the rumors gets that big IF Gruden wasn't in play and IF Gruden was in play then he should be fired for letting him slip away. Plus, Hart came from the Tide so that another good reason to can him.

I think the Tennessee brand loses some shine every year we're down.... which makes it more difficult for the coaching staff.... but not impossible.

As a Vandy fan, you should be able to relate with the fact that Vandy has always sucked - but get one decent coach in there and things are looking up.

All it takes is one solid coach and recruiting class and things can turnaround pretty fast. Not as fast as BBall, but pretty quickly.

Lets keep it real here. Vandy has always sucked. They play hard and can often take it to the 4th qtr with the toughest teams in the SEC, but they always find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Why, they have always been able to get better than avg. first string talent, but they have never been deep enough to keep the pressure up x 4 qtrs. Franklin is a great coach and I'm very hopeful for the Vandy future, but I need to see more. Are they headed in the right direction? Yes. Has Franklin recruited like a mad man for Vandy? Yes. Is Vandy better than the Vols this year? Without a doubt. Has Vandy beat anyone with a winning record this year? NOT A ONE. Vandy facalities...need I say more? Vandy is a VERY small school (5 or 6 thousand undergrads) which means very few potential boosters (given many of them are very wealthy...not all though) Vandy is a national university (last time I checked only 30-40% of their students were from the South. Many of them are from the North East, Midwest, West, etc where football is not a priority = less alumni support and harder to sell home and bowl tickets. I could go on, but those are some of the basic dynamics that make you even wonder why Vandy is in the SEC. Vandy won't likely become the Stanford of the SEC because Vandy doesn't have the fertile recruiting ground that Standford does, though Franklin is defying the laws of physics right now as far as recruiting goes. Maybe he will prove me wrong, but I need to see more than 2 years before I believe that he has a firm foundation to build on and one that can persist over time.

Fisher? Probably who Hart wanted all along. Improvement over Dooley, but I'm not convinced he is going to be a top tier SEC coach. Meh.
