Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

If Friday evening comes around and we still haven't named a coach, it's going to be fun watching everyone running back into this thread for more Gruden info.

I'll admit I was bummed this morning, but I'm still here and have been since I got home from work. This seems too crazy to not happen. I'm gonna stick with it.

Me too, I was a little bummed on Friday, but back to being a little optimistic again.

A post from someone on VQ that I thought was worth sharing...

John Brice, please respond to this if you don't mind.

I heard you tonight on The Nation. I enjoy the show. You said something on this show that really stuck with me. You said that "Jon Gruden is not the only coach who can win here." I agree with that 100%.

The problem is that going out and getting Jon Gruden represented much more than that to the Tennessee fan base. It's not about a guy who can get us back to 8 wins a year and occasionally contending. It's about confirming Tennessee as one of the premiere football programs in America. No matter what the financial cost or the risks involved, if this University had gone out of a limb, paid whatever it took, and brought Jon Gruden to head our football team the fans would have made it worth it. The support would have made what Bama is seeing now shrink in comparison. We feel like our football program has been taken from us, and we are all just waiting for an opportunity to buy in 100%. UT had an opportunity to make a statement, that we do not accept mediocrity and that we are so committed to winning that we are willing to do something unprecedented to bring in a guy no one else in the country thought we could hire.

So that's why the fans are upset. It wasn't just about hiring a football coach, it was about declaring ourselves for all to see as a national power who will not be downtrodden. That's exactly what Alabama did with Saban. They could have settled for someone else. They could have moped along and accepted the ups and downs until they found the next great guy. But they instead chose to go all in, wait forever, chase a coach who said NO NO NO NO over and over, and now look at them. We had the same opportunity, and we did not choose to make the same choice. And as someone who graduated from UT and loves this university that really sickens me.

I'll always love UT but the fact that UT chose, at this point in our history, to think small instead of shoot for the moon really makes me question just why I love it so much. I shouldn't care this much more than they do, and if they don't understand the mentality of this fanbase and exactly what the last few years has meant to those of us who bleed orange then what are we doing here?

Thanks.

The guy's on bowl selection just said fsu being only favored by a td over NIU maybe for a reason, cause somebody know's something about fsu, and pollak hinted at guarenteed knowing something. Hinting to me fisher may be leaving. Hope it's auburn

He doesn't have to meet with Fisher. They are big buds. Phone calls explain lack of travel. Perhaps the perfunctory "search" and dragging feet had nothing to do with gruden but because he already made a deal with Jimbo. Praying its not true.

Could see that but hoping that's not true.

Okay did anybody else see the line for FSU/Northern Ill? 7......Does that sound like a line that makes sense in the first place, much less considering NIU's coach will NOT be coaching the bowl game? I think vegas knows Jimbo is gone and gone soon, but to where?

Not a insider! But still believe he's the guy! As a diehard fan I know it needs to be him! He's the best option!!!!!!

There is only one name on the coaching list that will make me drive 6 hours to the O/W game in the spring and his name is GRUDEN!!!!!!!
