I was having dinner with a few former associates of mine earlier who in conversation about our coaching situation (one is a Georgia grad, the other is a Vandy grad) mentioned to me that even if we were somehow to convince Gruden to come, there was absolutely no way he could legally do so while under contract during contractual season (MNF). He would have to wait until then to be able to sign the contract. Even still, they brought up a good point in that Gruden would not announce he is ditching ESPN during his contractual year (which can be penalized if he breaches) especially since ESPN will be airing multiple TN games per season for years to come.

I hope you're right, but I really thought I saw boro give up on it. I know carter did and he said he knows the other ogs offsite... I kinda got the vibe he was speaking for all of them. I certainly wouldn't mind being wrong on this one
I don't get it. If the man wants to coach at UT, then why would leaks prove so devastating to the deal. Maybe the leaks are to put pressure on one side or the other. Maybe Hart putting the press on to look at coaches is trying to pressure Tarzan to ease up on something we can live with. I have no idea which way is up, but I think anyone with a brain can see the bogus crap from last Thursday. Come on man. Out of the blue K-news, which said Gruden was a fairy tale, suddenly announces Gruden cancelled meeting? Would Gruden even come to campus unless it's a done deal? Then Hart touches base with Grud's agent who makes us look stupid. What's the angle there, did Grud send a message back with his agent's reply? Lot of things don't add up and you'd think someone other than the Chattanooga reporter would at least question how stupid that all went done last week. Maybe the deal crashed, maybe Grud got $10M to coach the Chargers, but there's a lot more to this story than meets the eye. I hope it all ends well for UT.
