There's only one way we're getting Gruden and that is if he stops doing MNF for the last few games. There's no way we can wait almost 3 weeks to hire somebody and then they come straight into an NCAA dead period.

While it's not desirable I admit, Saban was hired after New Years. I think January 4th.

Definition: A "Dead Period," as the name implies, is a time when nearly all recruiting activity is temporarily shut down.
During a dead period, coaches cannot:

Make in-person recruiting contacts
Conduct in-person evaluations -- on or off-campus
Schedule official campus visits
Allow unofficial campus visits
Offer complimentary tickets to games
The only permissible communications during a dead period are phone calls (limited by NCAA regulations to one call per week) and correspondence.

Felt like they got totally ripped off. You can't honestly tell me that there was nt a Dec bowl game that they didn't deserve to play in.

The AD screwed it up. Turned down independence bowl waiting for better bowl that never happened. Terrible

Yep and they ended up with a top 10 class, but this isn't Alabama. We're no where near what the talent level at Alabama was when Saban came in. I guess it's not impossible, but they would be taking a really big risk only have 1 month to recruit. This upcoming class has to be solid or our on campus talent is going to be a critically low level.

A two week dead period won't matter. He won't need much time.
