Not defending B because he doesn't need any help doing that but, I would not discount his sources, I know who his sources are and there is not a Vol fan that would not have taken their info as the gospel.

Well what he's saying is absolutely false. Gruden wanted to be here. He wasn't just entertaining the idea

I posted this in one of the Strong threads - seems appropriate to this question.

I looked at Louisville's recruiting classes on Rivals from 2002 to the present which is all they show and divided it up into the various coaching tenures to see how they compared. Overall, Strong has been the highest performing recuriter there. John L Smith was there in 2002 followed by Petrino then Kragthorpe until Strong got there in 2010. His 2011 class was the highest ranked class for the entire period back to 2002. Generally Louisville's classes have aveaged ranking in the 40's but Strong has a slightly higher star average than any of the other coaches. He also appears to have less turnover if you want to make that assumption based on class sizes. The current class isn't even half full so the current ranking is dramatically misleading but the average star rating is still pretty high for Louisville.

I think you can conclude that he has recruited slightly better overall at Louisville than Petrino or anyone else who preceded him back to 2002 however Petrino's team had a better performance record including the last two years of Petrino's term with them moving to the Big East.

I think it's probably a given that Strong would likely fare better than Dooley did at UT. I don't think there's evidence to suggest it's a given that he can consistently compete with SEC big time boys but I don't think there enough evidence to state that he can't either. It's something we'd just have to find out.

IMO Petrino can win more with less talent. I don't believe Strong is that good yet. Maybe...maybe not in the future. I don't see how UT can make that gamble.

So UF should have hired him off of one year and a 7-6 record because he was a DC there got years. You are clueless.

You don't think what amounts to a multi-year tryout with Florida didn't have ANYTHING to do with Foley's decision making? I never said Foley SHOULD HAVE hired him, I'm saying Foley saw enough to know to take a pass on him and so should we.

I will be over at the Waldorf today, tomorrow. Will let you guys know what I hear, see.
I actually trust babyvol just a little bit more now given one thing that was said.... Sort of let me know who the connection is with. If it is the person I'm thinking of, then they would know better than almost anyone else.

I don't believe that. I've been reading since Gruden 3 thread and I always found him to be quite rational and other OG's vouched for him.

Who knows who Yay4Bray is? All the OG's know who I am. My information was never as solid as they thought theirs to be. I hear things at work, then pass them along.

With that said, I think Yay4Bray is as big a troll as VolReporter.

I am discussing this from a fan perspective. Please do not take what I say as an "insider". I do not consider myself an insider, and havent shared anything I heard since the middle of last week.

Yay4Bray is trying to deflect focus from himself with all his "He is Coming, I swear, Listen to me, I know" garbage.

I think Freak is keeping this thread going to keep riff raff like him corralled.

I also think there are $100k boosters that put too large a value on their opinion when the $1m club make most of the decisions.

This is one of the few things that make sense in all of this.

On a side note, does anyone have a link to the Saban/Satan vs. Jesus/Notre Dame image that Volkeys (or Keyvols) created a while back?

There is just absolutely NO WAY that the majority of all media involved in covering this coaching search is going to participate in some kind of a smokescreen campaign so Gruden can be hired.

Let's be real...

Nobody thinks Hart had a super secret meeting with the sports media after the Dooley firing.

But the media generally runs off of what the AD sources say. Feed the AD sources misinformation and the media takes it from there.

It should tell people something that Jeremy Foley (Florida AD, one of the best in the business) saw Strong up close and passed on him.

Ouch. Strong was my favorite in the post-Gruden list, but that is a great point. It's been very difficult to find inspiration in Hart's "real" candidate list.

This from 'Boro yesterday...discusses timeline.

There are a lot if assumptions about what the OG's feel. Nobody has dropped off or slinked away.

BCarter is the only one I've seen distance himself from his sources or completely reverse his position.

My position is still firm but guarded. My information has not changed, and I still am trying to make sense if Fridays developments. One thing is certain, none if what happen adds up or passes the smell test. Until I'm told something different by those I trust, I'm still cautiously optimistic. I find it telling that we are still inside the original timeline that was expressed from the outset.

For those claiming we've disappeared from the thread.....I am seldom here much on the weekend. But I'm never far away. My life eats up my weekends....its much easier to post from work during the week.

Jay has already vouched for me. Nice try though.

Freak is keeping the thread opened because there is still a lot of discussion.... it has nothing to do with a few people.

I think the idea appealed to Jon, the money issue some have said I feel is false. What info do you have stating he wanted to be here?

.... I also think there are $100k boosters that put too large a value on their opinion when the $1m club make most of the decisions.

I think this is a point that should never be forgotten. I don't know how things will work out, but there are only a handful of boosters that actually have influence over the AD, but they all think they should.

If Gruden was interested and now isn't, the PR disaster continues to grow until we either announce a coach or announce we tried but didn't get him.

AD officially, on the record, has said absolutely nothing.

Doesn't make sense.

Also don't understand why we would pay Strong's $2.5 million buyout. Don't buy Gundy leaving his alma mater. Fischer's inlaws say Auburn or FSU per OV (and I believe him).

Only one thing makes sense.

No reason to close it until a coach is announced. As long as the job is still open this thread is as alive (way more so IMO...) as any other...

Yes, I understand that but really believe they would have easily put 2 and 2 together a long time ago...
