This will be my last post til probably this coming weekend
There has been a reason I've posted everything I have. I'll explain it all after the announcement.
Just trust what I told u guys early on about media being a smokescreen.....well they weren't only one being a smokescreen. It's a great time to be a Vol. If what I told you early on is wrong I'll leave the board and u will never have to hear from me again.

My guess is he also told Babyvol to shut up. Notice that he said, "this is my last post till the end of the week." I could be wrong, but I think his source dropped enough hints to let him be confident again

If he is confident in his sources, he can read the tea leaves and see what happened. It isn't that hard to figure out. He may have been given assurances or he may have thought through it on his own and figured it out.

If you really bought in and believed there would be a Friday presser last week, then I guess I can understand why some have strongly turned away from the Grumors. I never believed there would be a Friday presser. It didn't make sense. I said early last week, Monday maybe, that there wouldn't be a presser until local media starting leaking positive reports concerning Gruden. That never happened and the Ath Dept. isn't going to burn the local media after the Ath Dept. has been leaking them bullsh1t reports.

If Money is the only reason a candidate wants to come here, then I am out on that candidate. I want a coach that wants to be here, and I thought that was Gruden for a long time. Now it is apparent to me I was wrong, he "entertained" the idea maybe, but in the end he somewhat used us to advance his real agenda which is squeezing as much money out of whichever NFL team he ends up coaching next year.

If we assume that Gruden will not be coaching the Vols, I seriously doubt that he will be coaching in the NFL next year either - less than 5% chance of that happening!!

The reason being because it is no secret that he made contact with current NFL coaches which is permissible if assembling staff for college job but completely unacceptable if that staff was being assembled for NFL job. NFL has pretty strong anti-tampering rules regarding coaches and players. Goodell would have Gruden's head on platter for not getting league permission to talk to other NFL coaches. And you can't talk to those coaches during the season anyway for an NFL job!

I mean a story that has been told and retold so many times it is recognized as truth by many. That's the only way I can correlate in my own mind anyone still thinking he is coming, or that somehow every big booster wanted him and Hart nixed it. I also think there are $100k boosters that put too large a value on their opinion when the $1m club make most of the decisions.

I have a feeling Tony was right this morning. He actually was the voice of reason when people were saying done deal and others were saying there was no chance with Gruden. He says Gruden really wanted to be here(evidence of talking to assistants tell me this is true) but that our money people got cold feet in the end. Well, it isn't my money to throw around but discount coaches will most likely get discount results unless we get lucky and we don't seem to have that anymore.

Gruden has zero reason to talk to Tennessee other than to pursue genuine interest in the job.

If he wanted an NFL job, there will be plenty of opportunities coming up that he can pit against one another to drive up his price. These Tennessee dealings won't have any material impact on his final pay should he decide to go to the NFL.

I also don't buy the argument that he's doing it to stroke his ego/increase his marketability. The guy has consistently praised UT over the years, far before this whole coaching opportunity arose. If he wanted to use a school for ego/market-pumping, we would've seen a lot more publicity around the Arkansas attempt. Not only were they out of the gate first, but he has nothing to lose by playing them.

There is also no way he doesn't issue a statement to the Knoxville news media. That just wouldn't happen.

Lot of good reasoning in that post.

Let me decipher this for haters:

Gruden deal is done. There is a timeline in place.

The boosters have been told it is done and to shut up. If they can't be trusted, they have been told lies.

AD is spreading lies and visiting candidates for due diligence/to further smoke screen.

I don't disagree re Gruden. However, money matters when you are trying to entice an established coach to leave a current position.

I agree with this because Gruden has always been a dream. The more I think about it the more I can't imagine Hart would not want to pull in Gruden. This is the stuff of legend. Of course a man like Hart would want to be known as the guy that reeled in Gruden. So to me there are only two options:

1. Gruden doesn't really want to be here
2. This is all the biggest play job that has ever been orchestrated, which honestly, is how I'd envision a hire like Gruden going down anyway, because it was always a dream. A hire like Gruden is nothing like anything the college game has ever seen. It would make sense that it would be a fiasco just like it makes sense it was always a longshot.

If we get to this weekend without a hire. IMO, its Gruden. I just think the timetable is the driving force. Not money or power.

My view of Strong is that he will be another Dooley in the long run. He might win early, maybe 7-8 games a year, but I just can't see him beating the Bama's, Gators, and Dawgs year end and year out.

JMO FWIW. Plus, the excitement would not be there with the majority of the fanbase. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but he would have to make me see it to believe it.

I'm calling out bcartervol. I don't think you had any information at all. I think you were piggy backing from other people and websites. It is apparent because you have flip flopped to opposite ends if the spectrum. If you really had info you would know that this wasn't him just entertaining us and that he infancy really wanted to be here.

This is really poor rationalization. I mean, this is grade F baloney.

The Old Vols are pumped on him, and I've read (somewhere?) that some good recruits will come if he is named. That said, he ain't Gruden.

I would like to know who these "good recruits" are that some are speaking of in regards to Strong!!!

Another rumor from "someone close to the situation".
