Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

They just showed Jeff Lurie (sp) at the Cowboys/Eagles game. Was that Gruden talking to Lurie?

No. Gruden is close to Andy Reid and wouldn't be talking up the owner about a job during the game. Gruden basically runs the same offense as Reid so don't expect Gruden in Philly. San Diego would be a good fit for Gruden.

This will be my last post til probably this coming weekend
There has been a reason I've posted everything I have. I'll explain it all after the announcement.
Just trust what I told u guys early on about media being a smokescreen.....well they weren't only one being a smokescreen. It's a great time to be a Vol. If what I told you early on is wrong I'll leave the board and u will never have to hear from me again.

I've seen this over and over and I'm beginning to look into what he's saying more and more.

Where he is talking about the media being a smokescreen and then talks about them not being the only smokescreen it's seeming like he is either talking about himself or LaMonte.

Anyone know what he is referring to about what he said at the beginning?

I am holding out hope. I always thought Gruden was the missing puzzle piece, however Hart could have another big name hire come out of left field.:dunno:

I'm calling out bcartervol. I don't think you had any information at all. I think you were piggy backing from other people and websites. It is apparent because you have flip flopped to opposite ends if the spectrum. If you really had info you would know that this wasn't him just entertaining us and that he infancy really wanted to be here.

I think bcarter has gotten emotional about it. He's drawing all of these conclusions that are are further stretches than anything the Grudenites are posting.

I posted this in one of the Strong threads - seems appropriate to this question.

I looked at Louisville's recruiting classes on Rivals from 2002 to the present which is all they show and divided it up into the various coaching tenures to see how they compared. Overall, Strong has been the highest performing recuriter there. John L Smith was there in 2002 followed by Petrino then Kragthorpe until Strong got there in 2010. His 2011 class was the highest ranked class for the entire period back to 2002. Generally Louisville's classes have aveaged ranking in the 40's but Strong has a slightly higher star average than any of the other coaches. He also appears to have less turnover if you want to make that assumption based on class sizes. The current class isn't even half full so the current ranking is dramatically misleading but the average star rating is still pretty high for Louisville.

I think you can conclude that he has recruited slightly better overall at Louisville than Petrino or anyone else who preceded him back to 2002 however Petrino's team had a better performance record including the last two years of Petrino's term with them moving to the Big East.

I think it's probably a given that Strong would likely fare better than Dooley did at UT. I don't think there's evidence to suggest it's a given that he can consistently compete with SEC big time boys but I don't think there enough evidence to state that he can't either. It's something we'd just have to find out.

My guess is he also told Babyvol to shut up. Notice that he said, "this is my last post till the end of the week." I could be wrong, but I think his source dropped enough hints to let him be confident again

In all actuality, if the Gruden deal is still working undercover, the worst thing that we can do is still talk about it on this board or to anyone else. Could very well be the reason for BV to drop out until the end of the week. They want the Gruden to UT rumor squashed, whether it is because he isn't coming or the deal is still in the works, really doesn't matter. They would want it squashed either way. I feel good about the chances to still land him. No sources, just gut feeling. If no hire is made this week, I will be even more confident, but we have to keep it to ourselves.

If we get to this weekend without a hire. IMO, its Gruden. I just think the timetable is the driving force. Not money or power.

Agreed. If they are conducting a coaching search, they should know by now who's interested. The longer it plays out, the longer I think they already have their coach as Dr. Jerry Punch and others said.

In the beginning the timeline was mid december from almost all 'sources'.

Also, there were many predictions that the media/AD misdirection would be very impressive and that Hart would come in and save the day in the end. That was predicted weeks ago.

I don't believe that. I've been reading since Gruden 3 thread and I always found him to be quite rational and other OG's vouched for him.

I have a feeling Tony was right this morning. He actually was the voice of reason when people were saying done deal and others were saying there was no chance with Gruden. He says Gruden really wanted to be here(evidence of talking to assistants tell me this is true) but that our money people got cold feet in the end. Well, it isn't my money to throw around but discount coaches will most likely get discount results unless we get lucky and we don't seem to have that anymore.

This is a good post. The problem is that the AD and university aren't in good financial conditions at all. Paying Gruden type money is a huge risk, especially to a known NFL coach that could pull a Kiffin. Alabama didn't have this risk with Saban because his success was at the college level and he wasn't having it in the NFL. They knew if he came, it was probably because he realized he wanted to be in the college game more. Hiring Gruden could become nothing but a bottomless money pit. If that happened, it would constantly be on the back of the million $ boosters. If national championships didn't follow Gruden to Tennessee, it would end up being a financial disaster, IMO, that could kill the program for decades.

I would like to know who these "good recruits" are that some are speaking of in regards to Strong!!!

Another rumor from "someone close to the situation".

:banghead2:

I think Hart will make an offer with in the next 24-48 hours. I think he will speak with Fisher today and i would be very surprised if anything came from that. I really dont think Fisher wants to play UF, Bama and UGA every year.

Hatcher, Bell, Quick, North, Green, Wilkins and possibly Ramsey is the chatter. Hurd and TKJR have been rumored to jump on board early too.

I think it will soon be proven Skeeter is the most keyed in member of VN. I will never listen to the people I listened to again and just want to look at it as a fan with an opinion. I told a guy yesterday to tell someone else when he was spouting off about what he "knows" because he is a "donor". Yea, $50k is a lot of money to some, but not in the realm of UT and their real money boosters.

Not defending B because he doesn't need any help doing that but, I would not discount his sources, I know who his sources are and there is not a Vol fan that would not have taken their info as the gospel.

'Boro seemed to have a good handle on the timeline (I think he may have mentioned that it may drag out into the middle of December, could be wrong, if so sorry 'Boro). I think he could give quite a bit of info on that.

There is just absolutely NO WAY that the majority of all media involved in covering this coaching search is going to participate in some kind of a smokescreen campaign so Gruden can be hired.

Let's be real...

It's something we'd just have to find out.

That's the problem. We are past rolling dice.

If you roll the dice and lose, this gets nasty. Also, Strong will not unite the fanbase until he wins -which could be quite a while.... if he ever gets that chance.
