Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

Somewhat fluid, but no later than weekend before Christmas.

Vague, but ty for the response. This whole process, from the Dooley firing to the Gruden speculation to the media CF that is going on now has been nothing short of interesting, to say the least. It would be nice to talk about our BCS game, instead of coaching speculation, this time next year.

Who has given more money to UT?

I know that Haslam has his name on a building or 2 at UT.

Not sure about Ergen.
The Haslam family by far.But the biggest of the big is Ergen. The Haslam family have been UT biggest boosters though for years. Great people who love UT.

Keep in mind, in any situation like this - it's highly likely that no one will really know who the hire is until hours before it happens. This is in regards to local media. They'll be all over the place, just like they are with any big hiring.

That being said, it sounds awfully suspicious that Hart is apparently flying all over the country conducting interviews (by reports) roughly every 3 hours. Strong, Fisher, Gundy, etc - Either Hart has clones of himself working overtime, racking up frequent flyer miles, or we have to understand that most of these conversations/interviews are just BS.

It seems like a simple stalling tactic, I don't see why more people don't realize that. It's like whipping out the laser pointer for you cat and chuckling as it chases it all over the place. LOOK OVER THERE FOLKS! NO, WAIT, OVER HERE! It's the oldest trick in high-profile hiring 101.

Like others have mentioned above, if this goes to Friday without a definitive front-runner or likely imminent deal in place - I really think it paints a pretty clear picture of who the real guy is and has been all along. Even if these sitdowns and interviews are taking place, it's due diligence in a situation like this. Even if Gruden was the guy, and Hart knew that from the getgo, you have to interview other candidates - it's just part of the process.

I'm sorry you fell that way. My aim was to offer encouragement. But clearly that doesn't meet your standard. I happen to respect my sources enough to adhere to their instructions and don't want to do anything to harm those relationships. But given your comments, noone is interested in encouragement, so I will say no more.

Smokey, I like your drive-bys.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Please keep them coming!

:cray: We all need a little encouragement.

First, I'd like to say yes, Gruden would be wonderful, but watching the last 3-4 UT coaching hires I've never seen the big boosters involved in any coaching hire at UT. What makes anyone think this hire will be any different?

Because, like the fans, they are fed up

Belive in Peyton Manning. He doesn't have the cash as the other fat cats but he is the heart and soul of UT. If he can sell Americans Buicks he can sell anything IMO Peyton sold gruden on the UT job.

For the record I would fall right out of my chair if it were Gundy. I don't believe it will be him nor do I want it to be.

Is this still part of a large cover-up.... I just don't freaking know anymore what I think?

Focus on what you KNOW, not on what you HEAR.

What we know:

1) Hart has not dismissed the Gruden rumors

2) Gruden has not PERSONALLY declined interest

3) Potential candidates are taking jobs left and right while, by all accounts, our AD is taking in basketball games and visiting horse farms.

4) EDIT: A career reporter - a standup guy - in Chatt staked his reputation on Gruden.

It's either Gruden - or Gruden is working with UTAD as a smokescreen until we announce the OTHER big fish.

Yea, but I guess my point was that even the buyout payed to the new coaches previous employer will be staggered. So there will likely be some begging going on to get boosters on the hook for those future payments in the event that the AD is unable to make them.

If, as it's been stated, the big boosters had Gruden lined up and Hart screwed it up, does anyone think they'll open their wallets for him? Are there enough boosters not on the Gruden train to cover the needed funding?

What basketball games?

No one is asking you to name your sources or say anything that would give them away.... if you did you would no longer have them.

I was not actually referring to you, but if you believe you have been doing this, then maybe I was... The old saying seems fitting here... "throw a rock into a pack of dogs and the one that hollers is the one you hit"

I do not know you.... I have been in this thread from day one... that in itself should be proof to everyone that i have NO STANDARDS...LOL

As far as encouragement... I have not left this thread.. been here everyday at risk of my job, my family and my health.... I will be encouraged when a coach is named.

Hopefully Jon Gruden :hi:

It's been said several times around here that the boosters were donating to hire Gruden, not just some guy for coach. If the money is earmarked like that it can't be used any other way.

And someone said that money hasn't been returned too!

Soon

Ron... your thoughts?

First we hear from Skeeter that Strong was going to be offered? now this from Gundy? Some have been sure on Jimbo/ I even saw Dabo's name last night!

Is this still part of a large cover-up.... I just don't freaking know anymore what I think?

I think all these guys are being interviewed and are either looking for raises or want the job. I still believe Gruden is going to be hired and won't change my opinion until someone else is hired. If it's not Gruden I hope it's Charlie Strong. He would recruit VERY well at UT and is a defensive coach, we clearly need major help on that side of the ball.

I still have some hope this could be true
