I just happened to run into an NFL Assistant Coach (can't disclose who) that used to live in my neighborhood who I've known for 15 years and asked him about all of this. He basically said, I don't know where things stand, but I will tell you another coach on our staff went to Knoxville in the last 2 weeks to look at schools and houses. I asked him why and he told me "you can probably figure that out yourself".
Now I'm not suggesting, and neither was he, that this means anything on where things stand today. But it is another clear indication that real conversations have been occurring for quite a while.
I do not want a "good, nice, solid ect." coach...
We have forgotten that we are the University of by dam Tennessee... we just let CANDY kick our arse and we are now willing to settle for good, solid or nice
That Sucks lemons for sure
If, as it's been stated, the big boosters had Gruden lined up and Hart screwed it up, does anyone think they'll open their wallets for him? Are there enough boosters not on the Gruden train to cover the needed funding?
Keep in mind, in any situation like this - it's highly likely that no one will really know who the hire is until hours before it happens. This is in regards to local media. They'll be all over the place, just like they are with any big hiring.
That being said, it sounds awfully suspicious that Hart is apparently flying all over the country conducting interviews (by reports) roughly every 3 hours. Strong, Fisher, Gundy, etc - Either Hart has clones of himself working overtime, racking up frequent flyer miles, or we have to understand that most of these conversations/interviews are just BS.
It seems like a simple stalling tactic, I don't see why more people don't realize that. It's like whipping out the laser pointer for you cat and chuckling as it chases it all over the place. LOOK OVER THERE FOLKS! NO, WAIT, OVER HERE! It's the oldest trick in high-profile hiring 101.
Like others have mentioned above, if this goes to Friday without a definitive front-runner or likely imminent deal in place - I really think it paints a pretty clear picture of who the real guy is and has been all along. Even if these sitdowns and interviews are taking place, it's due diligence in a situation like this. Even if Gruden was the guy, and Hart knew that from the getgo, you have to interview other candidates - it's just part of the process.
Not flaming, just questioning..
You're like me. Joined this forum about a week an a half ago. I've brought what I think are decent discussion thoughts to the table, but no inside info because I only have a couple friends who might know something.. But I'm not an insider.
For the sake of what you're bringing to the table, could you make a case to us that you're not a troll? Thanks in advance.
I think all these guys are being interviewed and are either looking for raises or want the job. I still believe Gruden is going to be hired and won't change my opinion until someone else is hired. If it's not Gruden I hope it's Charlie Strong. He would recruit VERY well at UT and is a defensive coach, we clearly need major help on that side of the ball.
