Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

Consider this. So what if the reports of Gruden speaking with potential assistants are true? But what if he was speaking with them on behalf of someone else? What if someone else well known in NFL coaching circles said, "Hey Jon, with your ESPN duties, you'll have contact with some guys, how 'bout guaging their interest in the college game."

The plot thickens.... who would you suspect he could be doing this for??? Dungy sounds GREAT to me

This.

If Hart were really after any of these guys, why would he suddenly wait this long to start the interviews THIS week? It appears someone is wanting our attention shifted away from Gruden or Stoops or some other unknown mystery candidate.

IMHO.

OR.... Hart put all his chips on the table with Gruden and Gruden passed (Friday), and now Hart is scrambling to find an option B.

I'm not sure Gruden would be trying to deceive ESPN about a potential coaching hire. ESPN would be pissed and most ethical people do not want to burn a bridge with their employer. Especially an employer that could give you favorable press with years to come.

Google Urban Meyer.

Is the well know person coaching at the moment?

I'm not sure and the people I've talked to aren't sure either. Hard to imagine it's someone that is still active, but stranger things have happened. Like I said earlier, folks are being very coy about all of this. I can't read if they know more than they're saying or if they just really don't have specifics.

The fact that gruden has not denied this job 100% keeps me believing. Tonight will be the decider for me. If gruden truly is out of the picture there is no reason he cant squash the rumors on espn. If he is in play, he will keep his mouth shut
Simple as that.

Think about it

I don't think that it is that simple. I wouldn't wave it in my employeers face one way or the other at my place of employment. I might hold a presser to say I am not interested.

His contract might also be written in such a way that it would not be in his advantage.
