Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Y'want some real tinfoil-hat stuff? I love conspiracy theories (don't believe any of them but love 'em for putting together stuff like a jigsaw puzzle).

What if, just IF, Gruden wants the job (for various and sundry reasons) but after meeting with Currie decided he couldn't work for him?? Currie needs to be fired and the oppositional powers that be (not Haslam) sees Schiano as a route to getting Currie fired?

Everything would have gone down just like it did today. Beav has been stoking the flames for weeks! All it would take is sitting back and letting Haslam convince Currie to make the offer to Schiano, sit back and watch the fireworks!

Multiple ends achieved. Currie gone (Gruden takes job). Haslam discredited (power shifts in booster circles).

All nice and neat and the only thing missing is a big red bow!

I saw something impressive today. I saw a fan base that's been down on it's luck (save a couple of years) for nearly a decade come together in one voice. And that voice was heard.

To John Currie,

If you want that stadium renovation, I can flat guarantee you the fan base will not be donating to that cause through ticket sales or your $7 hotdogs. You want to see an empty Neyland movement really materialize? Put Schiano in as coach. I can flat guarantee you that stadium will be pathetic on game days.

Try it, boss.

Grand, I just cant believe they would try that $hit hire in the first place. Unbelievable and bizarre.

UT was on it’s way to hire another subpar coach. Thanks to all of the “insiders” and their apparent quality information. Again. We weren’t being trolled at all.

I am sick. All I will say is, Gruden was never coming. aAll the people who said done deal. They have no connections just some random people who don't know jack. All they want is attention. Never trust anyone who said that gruden was a done deal.

I have to be. Im just dumbfounded by Currie. I hinted at his arrogance earlier today. That's the only thing that scared me. If he isnt fired Tennessee will not recover.

Yea he did a lot of behind the scenes it seems. I was worried about him too. But not worried about the process. I told these people, as did Hawk, Exile, Tuesday that schiano would not be hired.

Feel like I need to say this..

DTO, Boro, UTVolinExile, Knucks, Tuesday, AV and anyone else that has brought info...Just wanted to let you all know that I have your back..OG's need to stick together and I'll be here for the duration no matter who is announced..That said,I still believe it's Gruden..

SOON..

Why are so many non Gruden fans in the Gruden thread?

So they can gloat and bear down on the insiders and make certain everyone knows how enlighten they are. They didn't think Gruden was possible or so they are saying now. Guess what.. If BS was called on every insiders comment, we would still be where we are right now. Currie would have still tried to hire Schiano. The melt down would have ensued and nothing changes..

Could this be a blessing in disguise? Currie out, Haslams go down and they appoint Fulmer AD?

I can't speak to a conspiracy or that there is still some game being played. I know 100% that Schiano was/is to be hired and that it has caught everyone off guard. Even those that would have thought to be in Currie's inner circle. It is also baffling to those involved because in the vetting of Schiano, Currie was told multiple times that he was a bad person and a terrible person to work for/with. Most even thought Schiano's name had been passed over.

I am going to be honest here. I want(ed) Gruden as bad as the next, but always stayed at a low percentage because I couldn't get straight answers out of anyone. What I do think is that the reaction to Schiano is purely based on a terrible job by John Currie. There are still some in the football world that think that Schiano is a valuable football coach. Ohio State apparently vetted him enough to hire him. The issue is the way that John Currie has conducted this search. He has represented himself the whole time as someone who was in control and had his top targets in the pocket. Whether that was ever Gruden, I didn't know, but he carried himself as someone about to strut into the party. If Schiano was his guy, or we started falling through the list, then Currie should have been communicating. If Jon Gruden wasn't in play, he should have squashed it. If Petersen, Patterson and that strata weren't in play, he should have been saying so. What has happened is he acted like he had a big fish on the line and just tried to feed us a guppy. Would we all be freaking out if we were aware with how far down the list of top candidates we were? I don't know. I know that there is now concern over his Penn St. stuff, but I see the true reaction as this isn't who we were "promised." This isn't the type of coach that Currie led us to believe he had in his pocket...and for that we are revolting.

Tennessee wants, expects, and supports the program to make a big hire. Currie has failed on the hire and was irresponsible with the conducting of that search. He needs to go.

EDIT: If you have "sources" that have been quiet. Call them up. Flood gates are open. People are livid over there at 1419 Lake Loudon Blvd.

Thanks. It's Gruden. Easier now than ever per one of the 'outsiders'.

Nope. Now did Currie sign it?

C’mon man. Come to terms with your info not being legit. No way did Gruden sign the contract and then Currie not for some reason. He knows good and well that would be career suicide. It was all rumors and we never had him. Let’s be real. Is he still on the table? I don’t know? But we obviously never had him.
