Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Well we knew misinformation would come out. I have heard Haslam did something and I have heard it was Currie, agents as well. Won't know much until the dust settles. But Gruden is very much still in play.

If I had to guess it was Currie and Haslams. Ergen isn't playing.
Please explain to me how any of this makes sense. You're saying that all of this has been a great big smoke screen? Nothing more than a misinformation campaign? To what end? Exactly what could possibly be accomplished?

Ok ok ok. I think I’m grasping this dumpster fire.

No chance we were being trolled this hard, to this detail, by so many posters. Just didn’t happen. Gruden was/is in play but my guess is the Haslams have always called the shots and felt they were losing control. This idea is not new — some insider floated it weeks ago and it was squashed but I think this is a huge war going on.

Right now you have the Haslams and everyone else and, much like Cleveland, they make terrible decisions but have all the money. The new AD didn’t have the balls or experience to go against them so he will probably be fired. This uproar, as awful and embarrassing as it is, may be the only thing that would unseat the Haslams stranglehold on UT.

It was a war with a lot of casualties and UT football may suffer for years because of it, but maybe the only way to unseat the top booster power.

We may be stuck with mediocrity for some time but this was an amazingly orchestrated plan that might have worked long term — but with disastrous consequences short term. I think the ideal would have been to get Gruden showing the power of the “other” boosters but it just didn’t work. So now upheaval and sh*t storm ensues.

This is my two cents only. Probably only worth that as well.

The truth is that Currie talked big at the PC when he fired Butch. He spoke about money not being an issue and a big hire.

He never shot down the rumors of any coach.

Then, he trots out a sub par coach who was involved in a child rape investigation.

You don't get to Currie's level by being dumb. So I believe he knew what he was doing.

I assume he will be fired or step down sometime early this week. Just my opinion.

If Currie is fired who makes the coaching hire? Does Phil go to interim? Can he get gruden deal done?

Currie was just a prop for Gruden... he was the front man. It was Charles Ergen and 6-8 other super boosters making this happen. This was a complete attempt at an overthrow of the old regime of power. Problem is Currie sides with Haslams and did not expect the absolute revolt of entire Volnation. There’s no way Currie can show his face on campus without Gruden or his luggage in hand.

Ok I am back home..Went outside the family bubble and had to defend children and expose information re coaches who may be pedophile enablers..will stay here now till duration

Preface this by saying, for the umpteenth time, I'm still in on Gruden. It's not about whether anyone believes me, it's about trusting the what I was told and the person who told me. I absolutely do, and internet admirers and scoffers alike aren't going to change that for me.

Opinion to follow:

This is Haslam. Last minute attempt to do EXACTLY what he did in 2012. Back door an unacceptable coach in an attempt at grasping and clawing to remain the controlling force behind UT Athletics. I don't say guiding force, because that would imply a direction in mind.

It's about the control, plain and simple. It's gone on too long. It has to stop. If the Haslams won't step aside graciously, they need to be forced aside.

I'm still on Gruden, and I hope that the people who did the very real work to get him to the Hill will send the message home to the Haslams for the last time, that their time is DONE.

One person's opinion, FWIW.

Thank you for saving my thumbs. I owe you 100 likes when things get back to normal. Their influence must be put back in check. Enough!

Dude, after this mess, do you honestly believe any big name coach is going to come here? Currie has singlehandedly ruined us for the next 10-15 years because of this Schiano mess. I love our passion and I stand fully behind our uproar, but we're screwed and looking at another 2009-esq hire.

Nah we will be fine.

Rumor out there now per "Sports Talk": Haslems interviewed Schiano for the Browns job before their last coaching hire and were enamored with him and pushed him on Currie. If true, the Haslems need to be disassociated with the University.

Not going to lie, its been cool as hell seeing fans from a lot of different schools sticking up for Vols fans on Twitter. In the midst of all of this the silver lining is I'll always be proud to be a vol. I signed up for it. First, let's send Currie's ass back to Kansas!!

Your welcome. Let the man know what you think

I saw something impressive today. I saw a fan base that's been down on it's luck (save a couple of years) for nearly a decade come together in one voice. And that voice was heard.

To John Currie,

If you want that stadium renovation, I can flat guarantee you the fan base will not be donating to that cause through ticket sales or your $7 hotdogs. You want to see an empty Neyland movement really materialize? Put Schiano in as coach. I can flat guarantee you that stadium will be pathetic on game days.

Try it, boss.

How in the heck has Shiano ruined us for the next 10-15years? He is employed by Ohio St. and they are currently in the playoff picture. Yet, we are forever screwed because his name came up.

In my anger, maybe that was a tad excessive, my bad haha. But I do think this scenario has screwed our coaching search. Like I said, what big name coach is going to look at this and say "Man I love the atmosphere, let's go there!" I highly doubt anyone. I love how we all bonded together, cried foul, and did something to let our voices be heard, but I definitely think John Currie has screwed our chances at a big catch.

I chalenge John *spit shiner* Currie to a loser leave town cage match, any time any place. I'm a mad volunteer right now. I'll f*** that b***h up.
It will be a nonsanction match. I'm drunk, did you see the size of that chicken?

I don’t support any idea that this is part of s master plan whatsoever. That’s stupid. But I can believe that there may ( and I say may loosely) have been some last minute struggle for who is “in charge” at UT between two different factions. I work for a large group of Drs in Jackson TN and they donate more money in one year than I will ever see In 10 lifetimes. I had to speak to two of them tonight and they are almost possessed right now. Apparently they thought they knew something too and it sure wasn’t Schiano. Idk what’s going on but I know it was not part of the “master plan” to get Currie out.
