Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

In some crazy twisted way this may turn out ok. The Haslams backed Currie and they’ll be exposed for the incompetent fools they are (as if the Browns weren’t enough info) and a new regime can take over. Also in this mess Currie can kick rocks and we can get someone in the AD who knows how to run things. (Blackburn)

Confirmed!

No secret I wanted David as AD But I wanted to give John the benefit of the doubt. I thought John's personality might be able to effect what we needed. After today he and Davenport must be fired or resign. I am begging you all to turn the passion brought to bare against this hire to removing them. I have been talking for the last few hours to other boosters, former players, and friends in the AD and the outrage is universal. what has transpired today is inexcusable and we can't let up. They are unfit for the jobs they have and unfit for Tennessee. What happened today no matter how bad it looks or hurts it is a win for the good guys. I have never been more proud to be a Volunteer.

This! 100%

We have just been set back another 10 years. Nobody is going to want to take over this **** show.

Can anyone explain to me how Currie is still employed right now?

Because Schiano was Haslam's FN choice.

Currie did not go rouge - he went at Haslam's direction!

Sports Illustrated article:

https://www.si.com/2014/02/12/cleveland-browns-jimmy-haslam-fires-joe-banner

Banner wanted nothing to do with Schiano. Haslam was intrigued with him after the over-the-top recommendation from Belichick. The group flew to Tampa to interview Schiano, and one source said Banner was cold to Schiano, not participating much in the interview. Banner likely thought Schiano would be a disastrous hire, given all the negatives in recent Cleveland history. He was probably right, but the owner was open to it, and when the owner’s open to it, the man running football operations should at least consider it.

These Grumors are like the clap...you just can't get rid of it!!!

For what it's worth, that article was from this morning. Probably the same time Currie was trying to ink the deal with Schiano.

Something tried to tell me that Currie's smug little smirk at the press conference was him laughing at the idea of Gruden.

Chris Low on ESPN reporting that Tennessee backed out of a memorandum of understanding due to fan and state rep backlash. States that not sure if financial ramifications on the memorandum. What a cluster.

Can someone explain to me why the Haslams want us to be terrible? To have "yes men" in the AD rather than "right men for the job"? Serious question, my wife just asked me how it benefits them for them to have control but us be terrible, and I don't have a logical answer. Anyone?

Currie has to go now. This entire process has been botched. No coach in their right mind would walk into this dumpster fire right now. I mean it was a three alarm blaze but Currie just backed a tanker truck full of kerosene into it.

This will not end well
