Even if Currie was "going rogue"/doing what the Haslams wanted despite good intentions elsewhere... why suddenly back down? If you think you've made the right hire, then make the hire and put your cards on the table. Have a press conference, talk about why you made the decision, acknowledge the issues in the past and the research you've done to get past them... it makes zero sense to put this much bad PR on the University, then pull the hiring decision, now you're back in the spotlight for pulling out so quickly, and then again for the money you may or may not owe Schiano, and then again when people come to defend him.

Where's the conviction in the hire?

Haslam vs all the other boosters. While Haslam is the big donor if all the others revolt and threaten to close the wallet the brakes got pumped.

I can only hope this is the beginning of the end of the Haslam stranglehold in this University.

What a day! It is extremely busy but wanted to make sure I told you it's been great ,even if it's this small way, talking to you. Going to ride this out to the end, just don't know about the thread.Even if this Gruden thread turns into nothing it was worth it meeting you ,my fellow Pioneer. I find it hard to believe this Tampa meeting and the "Gruden contacting Tee Martin and Dale" ever actually happened. It just feels soooooooo long ago now. What exactly at this point would you like them to say? "Yes we know we hired a guy whose name is tied to the Sandusky scandal. Yes we understand he was only 68-67 at Rutgers. Yes we get that he sucked in the NFL. Yes we understand that the two biggest people giving his character a clean slate have ties to a now dead convicted killer and deflategate. But may I add that he was a coach from Tampa, so at least we were honest there!" In all reality, there is nothing for them to say. They know they screwed up and I would reckon that the next 24 to 48 hours, we'll be seeing some repercussions in terms of firings.

We're literally going to end up with a Google Coach aren't we? I said it earlier today and a few people called me out on it, but this disastrous PR screw up by Currie and the rest of the athletic department will put us back for another decade. Jeff Brohm, really? I'm now in the camp that it's time to make Tennessee, Tennessee again and hire someone with ties to the university. I believe Gruden is out, but it wouldn't hurt to take one last stab at him. Literally give him anything he wants. If he still says no, grab Cutcliffe, bring back Chavis, and go get Tee as a "coach in waiting"/OC role. Otherwise, we're looking at getting another Dooley but with a better overall record. 6-6 in one year at Purdue? Come on people!

I'm afraid we may stump Google when we Google our next coach.

I'm shell-shocked after today. I honestly don't know what to think anymore. What I do think is that Currie needs to drop the silence and address this coaching search fiasco immediately. Defend coach Schiano if you're confident in the man. Tell us how he's convinced you the reports aren't true. Tell the world what lengths you went to vette him. Tell us why you chose to cut off the deal rather than address the fans' concerns head on. I trust the man if he says he didn't know, but I would expect any fanbase to have the same questions and expect to have them answered. We were just the first team to be put in the situation.

I took my son to his first game in Knoxville yesterday and was so glad to see his excitement cheering for the Vols. After today, I'm curious how much will be left to cheer for. Sorry to be a downer, but this is the reality of the situation tonight.

If you think somehow in the last 8 hours Gruden became undesirable as our coach, make that argument here, if you can.

But don't roll over and settle. Don't do it. Go read Maxim's 3 and 7 over and over if you have to.
