The real world does not work in this fashion. UT academics are bigger than the football program. The Haslams have donated massively to that part of the institution. They are entrenched and there is no removing them, even if the wild conspiracy that they didn't want UT football to have success were true.

One more time, Jim and Jimmy are different people. The Haslam who wields power and donates massively to UT is the father of the Browns owner, who also donates massively, but not as much as his father. Big Jim doesn't own or run the Browns and has nothing to do with their football being good or bad.

One more time I know who they all are, I don't need a Haslam lesson. Football at the highest level and academics can co-exist. Bottom line is Haslam needs to get out of the decision making process at UT. He is a control freak and has lost his marbles. He isn't the only donor, I got my opinion and you got yours. I think most folks have seen enough to make up their own minds. I have been a follower for over 45 years. Until Haslam relents and Currie is fired I will not spend another dime on UT. I will continue to holler for UT to get it right. Currie and his click wanted to hire a man of character alright. UT needs to quit hiring from Sexton and JH's titty!

So you actually don’t believe its reasonable to understand they are politically driven for power?

To what end do you think they are trying to flex this power? Yes they do indeed have power. It comes with being extremely wealthy in America. But to think they spend their millions to actively sabotage UT is not something those who don't wear tinfoil should believe.

Listen to UT Paul, who hosted a family in his sky box Saturday, if you won't listen to me.

Can no one grasp the amount of money this family has donated? Does no one realize that Tennessee Athletics facilities (mind you is one of if not THE biggest selling points for recruits) is one of the best in nation, due largely to this family?

People have this assumption that just because someone is worth an exponential amount of money, the amount they donate (even when it's in the 10mil+) is minuscule and meaningless.

If they’re going to make us the Cleveland Browns of college football, then they can take their money and shove it

Oh I think everyone is greatly appreciative of their donations and what it means to the University, but while they may be brilliant in business, need to leave the athletic decision making to people that have a clue

I don't know about that calming thing with painting. I get pretty pissed when I go over the lines.

Probably doesn't help that I'm using this, though:

I bought my sister a “Bob Ross” water color by number set many years ago. It’s been a joke in my family since we watched him on PBS for years. One thing I learned........I have zero artistic ability.

I believe that Gruden did get an offer. To much smoke for that to not have happened and he said no. Mullen was next and he was taking the Florida job. Frost is going to Nebraska. Then Currie panicked and that is how we ended up where we are at now. No clue who is next or will want to be a part of this mess.

This makes the most sense to me. Packer even said on the locker room that he had trusted sources that said we offered. Maybe had Currie not taken a vacation right in the middle of his search. He could have googled who he had on his list. Now is when we need “BIG, EXPENSIVE, and EXPLOSIVE”!

I do contracted work for some of the wealthiest people in America...i see it regularly. I’m not saying they are actively sabotaging UT, but I don’t think their priorities revolve around anyone beyond themselves.

Edited: I just re-read this. I'm sorry if this came off as me being rude. That was not my intention.

People, for whatever reason, have to have a fall guy to blame. The Haslams are the name everyone knows, so they take a lot of heat. I am not happy with some of Bill's political decisions but I am thankful for everything Jim Haslam has given to this University. It would be a lesser place for athletics and academics if not for them.

To an extent, yes. But, I've talked with many professors and faculty members of UT (some who don't particularly care for football at all), who all acknowledge the importance of football to academics. Football success drives applications, program reputation (warranted or not), and many donations. Yes, Jim gives a lot, but he certainly doesn't donate everything.

What if it's not that Jim is trying to sabotage the program, but is just incapable of steering it towards success? Doesn't that seem far more likely than a conspiracy theory that he wants to see it fail? Jim's ego is so far up his @ss he is incapable of getting out of his own way. To me, that seems far more likely...
