Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Bring Kiff home, get Tee on board as OC, Steele as DC, and let's get back to winning games in Knoxville. Seriously the best possibility available at this point.

Deep breath .. exhale ... I could actually ( right now , today ) get behind this . I may have just thrown up a little in my mouth

Nope, not Kiffin. Never Kiffin, and never Petrino.

Look, we just collectively stood up for our principles, for values like integrity. We demand integrity in our coaches, in those who represent the University of Tennessee and our great state. That's who we are. I for one am proud that we did.

But now we should go out and grab a different coach who also shows a lack of integrity? Nonsense.

Do not let desperation sway you to abandon core values.

No more thinking about coaches who have proven deficits of integrity. Please.

I am officially putting my name in the hat 4 hire. I’ve never been so...confused & angry (that’s saying something, I’ve been hit in the head a lot) Any role is fine. I’m 100% serious!

Morning all. Back from the disaster that was yesterday. Proud of everyone who stood their ground yesterday, and proud to call myself a Tennessee fan. By no means do i bring anything meaningful to the board, as I am 8 hrs away. But none the less love all y'all like family. Hopefully we start with the top. Slow down on a coaching search, and cut the monsters head off. Then we can get back to doing what we do best. Treating each other like a disfunctional family. God bless.

Well, after sleeping on it this is where I'm at on the situation.

1. I do not believe the trusted insiders intentionally mislead us.

2. I believe the reported power struggle within the program is very real.

3. I believe that one side of the struggle was mislead into thinking a home run hire would be made in order to get the donations for renovations from them.

4. I believe it was these donors that reached out to Gruden and felt there was interest and that's where the insider's information came from.

5. I'm not sure just how interested Gruden really was about taking the job.

6. I am positive that the AD is not wholly committed to winning at an elite level.

7. At this point I cannot see why any elite coach or player would want to be any part of this mess.

8. There will be no quick fix.

9. I absolutely cringe at the thought of what today will bring in this embarrassing saga.

10. In summary, I'm going to ride this out on the same stipulations as before. We cannot survive this with another Google search coach despite the situation dictating that's probably all we will be able to get. For me, the Gruden ship has sailed. If we go with anyone other than a Miles (cringe) or Kiffin (yes please), I'm probably turning in my Vol card.

Flame away.

Great post. I have a slightly different take on #6. I think the AD thinks they are fully committed to winning at an elite level, but I don't think he knows what it takes. Plus, I get the sense he's more like the Chicken than he is the Pig when it comes to their commitment to a good bacon and egg breakfast. He is definitely not giving his all for Tennessee.

This is what I was hoping to see last night and today ... our VFLers stepping up and wanting to do this

I've said this before, anyone associated with this Schiano debacle should no longer be associated with Tennessee football. If the reports are true that would include Manning. Sad day to be a Vol fan, so sad I am almost convinced this University is toxic and unhealthy.

Folks it's time we come to the clear understanding that Haslam is and has been destroying this program and something must be done. It is time for a movement, the message must be clear, Haslam and his puppets have to go, and if they don't then we as a united fanbase must be prepared to walk away. It's that simple.

We are not a united fan base. This thread alone is plenty proof of that.

Lol. People are still buying into the beav? He came out and said he was a fraud pretty much. What can't people understand about the fact that gruden obviously doesn't want to coach? We need to move past this and find the coach that can and wants to lead us out of this.

Fraud or not , there is a problem with power that needs to be fixed, it has been discussed at length but lost on many. Again this was not about Jon Gruden, ask yourself why can't Tennessee hire a quality coach?

The perception in the media and public opinion is that Tennessee fans are unreasonable. Perception is reality people. Not blaming us but this predicament we find ourselves in isn't going away. What Currie and Haslam forced is to do yesterday will set this program back 10 years. The best Tennessee can do at coach will be coaches looking to make the jump to power 5 or damaged goods coaches looking to rehab image. That is our reality now. Not something we did but what poor leadership for the last 10 plus years has given us.

Ever since the crap went down at PSU, I have said it would take something like that happening at Tennessee for me to turn my back on them.
Yesterday came damned close.
