Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

So there's a booster civil war happening. Gruden agreed in principle to what the boosters offered.

Currie is a Haslam pawn, so he does what Haslam says.

The Trey Wallace, Hargis, Brice, and Ramey pieces came from the booster side to force Currie's hand. Blackburn essentially was interviewed saying if he was AD, Gruden would be signed (reading between the lines of the Hargis piece).

Boosters (minus Haslam) have won the court of public expectations. Former players tweeting out things Wednesday before last were used by Ergen-led boosters.

Time for Haslam to GTFO. Everyone go to Weigel's.

You have explained this whole process in a very well written post. This is what Beav has been saying all along. Beav was letting everyone know we could have Gruden, but not without change, this is the war that has to be won to change control.

This all makes too much sense to not be true. I was wondering if the Ergen/booster camp was behind the release of Schiano's name yesterday.

There was a very fun rumor floating around on reddit that it was an associate AD that did not approve of the hire that leaked the story to the media, knowing the backlash it would cause.

UT needs a coach that's allowed to run a winning program and an AD that'll tell the money men where to stick it and leave him alone.

That seems to be the dog chasing his own tail....I agree we have to get administrators that have that attitude and guts in there first, or it’ll never happen.

You will never get that, I'm afraid.
As long as the media narrative is that the fans outrage has cost Tennessee a solid head coach, the powers that be will be more than willing to roll with that and any negative repercussions will solely be our fault.

Yep, you're prob right, and all the more reason to say I'm not back and won't be back. This is a sh** show of major proportions.

Just heard on Jayson Swain’s show that Peyton signed off on Schiano.

Wtf?

I've said this before, anyone associated with this Schiano debacle should no longer be associated with Tennessee football. If the reports are true that would include Manning. Sad day to be a Vol fan, so sad I am almost convinced this University is toxic and unhealthy.

Folks it's time we come to the clear understanding that Haslam is and has been destroying this program and something must be done. It is time for a movement, the message must be clear, Haslam and his puppets have to go, and if they don't then we as a united fanbase must be prepared to walk away. It's that simple.

Hyamms is blaming the fans. Shocking. Said many coaches are scared away by the fan base. If I could choke him through a radio, I would.

I am so proud and damn happy to be a Tennessee Volunteer, this feels good to see this fanbase and VN stand against the corruption. Not happy about how this went down. And when Tennessee Volunteers stick together WE DONT LOSE!

This is just a thought. There are no confirmed reports (that I've been able to find) from either our AD or OSU's of SCHIANO being a done deal and wether any MOU was signed. It seemed to all start from Dan Wolken a sports writer for USA Today. Our fan base and media were so anticipating a home run hire, but because of the recent poor hires and the low morale all over (media print and radio, social media, Twitter, forums, etc.). As well as the worst season in our modern football history. We fell for it hook, line, and sinker. One thing is for sure though our voice was loud and it was heard. This might still turn out to be good in that HOH should see the writing on the wall. Please don't tell me I'm wearing a tinfoil helmet. I'm just not ready to give up on Gruden coming to the Hill. Do I trust Currie? Nope. We should've hired Blackburn. We would've had our man by now. GBO!
Agree- it's almost like this Schiano story wrote itself as it started exploding. Established media can't be trusted any more as has been apparent for the past few years- could it be somebody planted this to take down Currie? Stay tuned...

Good morning people...with the exception of a few. Suns out. Beautiful morning. We can only hope what needs to be done is done to get this back on track quickly.

Maybe he doesn’t care about us like we think he does? It really makes you wonder what people really think of this University, the city and it’s people if they thought they could roll out a man with this kind of baggage and think we’d be happy.

People, media, etc seem to think we deserve this. No one was mentioning Schiano for any other job but ours. No one would suggest Schiano for Florida, Arkansas, Texas A & M or any other program. But they think we should be happy with him. It says a lot about what people think of Tennessee.

This. All day long and continuing this week, this.

We have to settle for a Coach Bing McGoogle or a passed over nobody while other schools get a free pass in their minds. Eff 'em.

How could Haslam be the problem, look what he's done for the Browns ? :clapping:

Rest assured, if the time is right, any coach that loves UT or a coach that is looking for that "breakthrough" opportunity, will jump at the UT job. Admittedly, it's as high of a risk job as there is in college football right now (and maybe ever). But if you are successful, think of the rewards.

Finally, if you are a true fan, ask yourself this question - do we really want a coach not willing to take that risk?

I disagree.

From a fans point of view, no. We support and want a coach that can win, but doing it the right way. That's what we showed. We showed that we will not put our morals aside and just hire anyone. We want a coach with integrity and honesty. We also want a proven winner.

From an administrative side, possibly. We showed that we will hire anything that the Haslams trot out in front of us and we are supposed to like it and agree with it. We showed that as a business, we have no clue how to run one effectively.

Overall, I think we are ok. I think we will see a shift in power and our voices will be heard. It will be interesting to see if Currie can weather this storm. My feeling is, no.

Hope you're right.

Lol. People are still buying into the beav? He came out and said he was a fraud pretty much. What can't people understand about the fact that gruden obviously doesn't want to coach? We need to move past this and find the coach that can and wants to lead us out of this.

We need to stabilize.

In my option the best path would be to clean house in the UTAD, make Fulmer the interim coach, and start the search over for next year.

Another rushed search is going to set the program back another 5-6 years.
