Official Jon Gruden Thread XLIII

Lol. People are still buying into the beav? He came out and said he was a fraud pretty much. What can't people understand about the fact that gruden obviously doesn't want to coach? We need to move past this and find the coach that can and wants to lead us out of this.

I don’t know what to think about the Beaver, but I think without him, we would have been more apt to accept Schiano. Beaver was paid to come here and tell us better was possible. From all the leaked info not coming from beaver (trey Wallace and blackberry farms comes to mind), I think there was some interest from Gruden. This is 2012 all over again only this time we demanded better. I don’t blame the beaver.

Beaver admitted to working in a think tank and hinted he was an investment banker. From his verbiage, he sounds like a mergers and acquisitions guy. It all makes sense. If this is in fact a coup of sorts, then someone has put a great deal of time and effort into planning it. I’d love to know the story.

Hyams just said he strongly believes Peyton not only endorsed this hire but worked with Currie on getting Schiano.

Peyton is dead to me.

At least one national media member gets it: Andy Staples

Greg Schiano: How Tennessee protest shapes coaching search | SI.com

Always knew I liked his BBQ tweets, but apparently can think through an issue logically as well.

One, and potentially the only, ray of sunshine for today. The rest of the media have our fanbase hooked up to the tailgate of the truck and is speeding toward the interstate and a 100 mile dragging...

#OccupyTheHill!

I think you are onto something here.
If there were an organized (large) demonstration to kick the campaign off, well attended by media, followed by a residual presence of less people, of course, it wouldn't hurt.

This, of course, should be combined with Shock and Awe by the Ergen et.al. booster forces... both covert and overt, including the courtroom and media.

Bubba/Beaver?

Peyton Manning is a brilliant vol, so I don't believe that for a half second. The fact it came from Jimmy and he "strongly" believes tells everything. Lmfao

Ever since the crap went down at PSU, I have said it would take something like that happening at Tennessee for me to turn my back on them.
Yesterday came damned close.

Doyle, I've turned mine, and never thought I would. But I don't see a way out of this. I see no leadership able to stand up to the evil powers that be, I hope I'm wrong.

Well said!

The perception in the media and public opinion is that Tennessee fans are unreasonable. Perception is reality people. Not blaming us but this predicament we find ourselves in isn't going away. What Currie and Haslam forced is to do yesterday will set this program back 10 years. The best Tennessee can do at coach will be coaches looking to make the jump to power 5 or damaged goods coaches looking to rehab image. That is our reality now. Not something we did but what poor leadership for the last 10 plus years has given us.

It's not the fans fault good gracious, that's for sure. This fan base has been there through it all, there is no denying that and nobody can. The fans don't control the goings on at UT and how they do things, but maybe it's time their say gets out there. Perception is not reality here, Currie and Haslam did it to themselves. They could have squashed Gruden if it wasn't happening said they tried and moved to the next man. NO they went after someone that isn't worthy of coaching period. Don't blame this on the FANS, the blame is at the feet of UT. Shiano was never going to have the support and anyone with a brain could have predicted that.

No secret I wanted David as AD But I wanted to give John the benefit of the doubt. I thought John's personality might be able to effect what we needed. After today he and Davenport must be fired or resign. I am begging you all to turn the passion brought to bare against this hire to removing them. I have been talking for the last few hours to other boosters, former players, and friends in the AD and the outrage is universal. what has transpired today is inexcusable and we can't let up. They are unfit for the jobs they have and unfit for Tennessee. What happened today no matter how bad it looks or hurts it is a win for the good guys. I have never been more proud to be a Volunteer.
Well said but the ultimate culprit imo is Jimmy Haslam. He pulls the strings and this fiasco is on him. It is a power play to maintain his position.

Hate being in Limbo on my decision to follow college football. I have always been a VOLS fan and cannot join in with another team, So its VOLS get their crap together or I am out all together!

Completely tired of the “fan base” argument.

We want and expect to relevant in college football. If that means we suck as a fan base then we should wear that badge with honor.

Mediocrity should never be accepted here.

Hard to believe... the owner of Casual Pint Northshore (Chris Owens, @flyerwarriorTN) is an OSU fan and tweeted yesterday (responding to someone who responded to Herbstreit): "I'm a Buckeye living in Knoxville. Tennessee is so messed up. I hope they never win another SEC game. Go Bucks!"

He has seen deleted the tweets, but screenshots are out there.

How dumb do you have to be?

We just crawled through our own river of crap and survived

I feel like we've gone one step beyond where we were 5 years ago. The panic hire was averted this time. If we need to ride an interim for awhile longer to get the right Grude for the job then so be it. Maybe the people who drove the Schiano decision will have to tuck tail and let some other folks sit down at the grown ups' table.

By not squashing Gruden rumors it gave him distance to go after their guy, they absolutely did this to themselves!

The fact is that this program will never be great with the Haslams in charge. The other boosters and fans need to stage a coup.

Boycott Pilot and if they try to run for any other public office, vote Democrat. And I say this as someone who has never pulled a lever for a Dem in my life.
