Hyams just said he strongly believes Peyton not only endorsed this hire but worked with Currie on getting Schiano.
Peyton is dead to me.
I see zero reason to discount this theory and would agree with it 100%, however it would mean that those who spearheaded this effort in 2012 came back for a second try in 2017 and have now failed to be successful two time in a row.
And in spite of what Beaver posted "These people don't miss" they now are owners of an 0-2 record. If I were a major booster any and possibly all influence they once held with me would now be gone.
Was the La Canfora article just a plant by Currie to try and say to fans "at least we tried" when he then shortly after that planned to announce Schiano?
Jon Gruden talking to Tennessee Volunteers about coaching vacancy - CBSSports.com
It's sort of comical as just like in the film you have Grudenites this morning wanting to be placed back in to the Matrix. The idea all the contracts and signings and meetings and agreements with Gruden were really really really real. LOL
They might not be 0-2 if their plan was to get rid of Currie in all of this.
I have believed this from Day 1. No one on the "other side" wanted Currie. No one. It was always Balckburn. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I don't think well for UT or Currie. One will budge.
I can't believe we haven't even heard so much as a peep from anyone at the university yet. I feel like I'm in the middle of a nightmare right now and need to be woken up. Is this real?
Call be brain dead or any other adj one wishes but "It ain't over till the fat lady sings" and yesterday morning was the calm before the storm....FEMA ain't fixing this damage but VOL Nation will and I don't mean just this forum !And in spite of what Beaver posted "These people don't miss" they now are owners of an 0-2 record.
Saturday Down South reporting Schiano was in talks to be UTs coach before Butch was even let go. It seems increasingly likely Schiano was our guy from the start - our top target, our white whale.
The press release describing the Gruden offer as a procedural motion was not a smokescreen. It was true. Any attempt at hiring Gruden was a disingenuous act by a Haslam-led, tone-deaf AD. And with Currie canceling an in-person interview with Mullen, it seems very likely that he was a procedural motion as well.
Dont froget that these young men and women, that are part of Tennessee Athletics, have had NOTHING to do with this. Dont turn your back on them.
My guess, based on info here, at what happened:
A group of boosters wanted Joh Gruden as coach. The Haslems, Currie and Davenport feigned support of the initiative. The booster group proceed to gauge Gruden's interest and what it would take to get him to UT. They came to general agreement over three weeks ago and even celebrated the agreement on Wednesday in Dunwoody, GA two weeks ago. While legal matters were being worked out, the Haslems, Currie and Davenport were pursuing their own agenda to maintain complete control of UT athletics. The Haslems, thinking they alone know what is best for UT, were enamored with Schiano when he previously interviewed for the Browns coaching job(this was before the release of the previously sealed testimony of the Sandusky case implicating Schiano, thus the lack of due diligence on Schiano, because they had already vetted him). They thought he was a better fit for UT than Gruden. They knew they couldn't sell Schiano to the other boosters, so they kept Currie and Davenport on a short leash and thought they could have the deal done before the other boosters could do anything about it. Once announced, the other boosters would be obliged to support their new coach. It would have worked except a member of the AD staff leaked the deal to other boosters and they mobilized the support of the UT BOT and legislators.
