Son, lets have a little chat about those years you missed. Peyton started a streak of 9 wins against the tide. Majors beat Bear in '82 after a long drought and it was sweet. My accidentally ran into my 72 year old dad on the 45 yard line after we stormed the field. Condredge lit it up, as did Willy Gault and Peerless price. Look up Kiner, Graham, Emanuel , even Johnny Bulter.
Now contrast that with a guy who gets touchdowns called back for celebration (twice) when it's November and we haven't won an SEC game yet. What's to celebrate? Or a quarterback throwing a touchdown against Vandy and then getting caught on TV shooting stink eye at the Vandy bench when in reality, he's getting his ass beat and being cocky about it.
I saw my first UT game in ' 65 vs. Army. Spent many fall afternoons in neyland and I promise you, this is as low as its been, at least to me. Worse than when we started ou 0-6 with majors. We recovered quite nicely if you go back and look, but for a moment it was almost as dark.
I think a coach with some spine would cure some of this cancer I call cockiness and right the ship. As loyal as I am, it's hard to watch train wreck after train wreck and want more of it.
Take heart though, bama suffered too during the Dubose, Shula, Price and Francione years. You'd never think they were down, but they were and have recovered nicely. UT can do that too, but it's a critical time. Success breeds success and at one point this season, 5 of the teams that we play every year were in the top 10. Not fair you say? Well there once was a day when we were hanging right in there with them and competitive. Only glimmer of that was the first half of the Florida game this year before the bottom fell out. If we get another loser, even the loyal guys will bail. Sorry, but I'm not paying to watch stink eye.
