I wanted Fulmer fired when he was fired, too. But, if it comes down the Fulmer or some high school coach or Dooley 2.0, I think you have to go with the big guy.

Let's hope that Hart hasn't screwed this up and we get Gruden. But, if we don't, it looks like we are going way down the list.

I'd take Fulmer over Strong I think.... IF, IF you could guarantee me an epic coaching staff. And when I mean, epic - I mean EPIC. Like the best staff of all time - 6+million in salaries. I'd expect him to take a paycut too since he raped the AD of money after that bogus Hammy extension.

No to Snyder- do not want a guy who will be remembered for his time elsewhere.

However, I have never understood the heavy "research" agenda and trying to make a university a research institution. Research is not the real world. One goes to school to learn a trade or an area to get a job and make a living. Research is for pure academics. I just don't believe in all of that.

Second, UT was founded to first support its citizens within this fine state. UT is not Harvard, Princeton, or Yale, a school that is a dream for half of the kids in America. UT was built for TN kids. Now, the standards have improved, and I am fine with that. But, we should not lose sight in the purpose of our fine flagship institution. I will be very upset if the day ever comes that there are more students at UT who are from other states. Don't think it will happen, but Cheek must realize and understand the purpose of the school- not to create some destination for kids from all across the country. Along with this, UT football has been a fabric of the school's tradition, and it is a great marketing tool for the university as a whole.

Just my two cents, and no, I am not against education. I do happen to have a graduate degree.

I agree with that to a certain extent. My daughter is a perfect example, she grew a UT fan (obviously), but when time for her visit came, and after visting another university out of state, she chose the other university (and it IS another SEC school). Mainly because of the classes, but also because of (in her words) "condition of the school vs the one she chose". So academics and the university itself may need continually overhauling to keep those students in state. Just like you, JMO.

He's a great guy. Best manager I've ever had bar none. He's a giant kid though, no telling what kind of crap he's going to do any given day. hell when we get bored he pulls out his golf clubs and has competitions with the other salesmen on who can land it on the roof of the carwash next door, over Illinois ave in oakridge lol he's crazy.

Guys what will we do if all the names like strong, gundy, etc. get their jobs settled and we linger around until mid Dec thinking its Gruden and we end up with Kirby Smart. Confidence in the Hart is not real high.

'Research Universities' aren't limited to Ivy League - UGA is widely considered a research-focused institution and they have found a healthy balance.

I think Howie Feltersnatch at The Oklahoman put it all in perspective for me.

I find it interesting that Ron Zook's radio interview last week revealed a 3:15 am text from Gruden. It gave me the impression there was an emergency of some sort. I also find it interesting that Charlie Strong and Larry Fedora are names tied to Ron Zook according to their bios. Could be nothing, but it could be that a call went out to Zook to help create a diversion to take the heat off of Gruden. Just an idea..
