Nothing in this thread is negative towards the Vols. We just don't want to see this program totally demolished by this AD. There are some here that are Gruden or nobody but there are several coaches that I think deserve to be the HC of UT

Strong to decline offer/Smart staying at bama
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sources on twitter say that Strong is really wrestling with this decision. Meanwhile, Smart's package has been enhanced at bama (have fun with that one).
TennesseeBeat More via @ericcrawford , some in Louisville athletic department believe Strong will stay or is wrestling w/ decision.
GrantRamey RT @ronmusselman8: Say, what? RT @footballscoop: Source tells us Kirby Smart agreed to an enhanced package today with Alabama.
We lost to Kentucky last year. What's your point?
Of the coaches they have mentioned Strong is by far the best, and he certainly would likely improve our defense.....but I do not think he will be a SEC championship coach. He's an awesome defensive coordinator, but I don't see him exactly dissecting other shools defenses, and or recruiting to the level we need. If it is him I hope I am proven wrong. I think people want to make him into the next Tony Dungy....and I just don't see it.
Still hoping for Gruden, if it's Strong I will support him as a UT coach. That said I think UT would end up sucking the life out of Charlie Strong. The fans want immediate results which is not likely to improve that quickly even if Gruden were announced tomorrow. When things don't improve as fast as they want, the criticism will began...and sadly people may take it out of context....in any case...he's building agood HC career at Louisville, Tennessee is ripe for a 4 year failure, and hostile fans....I don't know why he'd come.
After 4 years even Gruden might regret it....But that's why you lock him in for 8
Face it we have become the new Alabama of the 90's chasing good coaches away, and impossible to please, yet not willing to pay the price to do it right.
Kinda like your doing now....why does it bother you so much that we want something exceptional for UT...why does it bother you that we want to come out of the abyss of what we have ALL endured for the longest while and we thing Gruden is the answer to that...why does it bother you that we may be letting ourselves in for a load of disappointment...I can guarantee I will not be asking you to wipe my tears so you really have no vested interest in this forum other than to strut your premature "I told you so" ...hopefully for our program we (grudenites) wont have the opportunity to come back in few years and do the same to you. I will support any coach that takes on the job of HC but that deosnt mean that is who I wanted and I have to go blindly when I don't agree with it
Well said....my thoughts exactly!
a passage from Eric Crawford who covers Louisville sports for WDRB :
Different people measure it different ways. I measure it by the job that is done. In three seasons, Charlie Strong took U of L's program from chaos to the Sugar Bowl. He gave the program Teddy Bridgewater and a slew of talented young players. He gave direction and shape to the program off the field, requiring community service of his players and leading it to unprecedented academic levels. He brought the program from the brink of APR penalty, and improved it to the point where the ACC accepted U of L as a member -- based largely on its on-field performance in the most important sports.
Whether Strong leaves or stays, he has lived up to much of his end of the deal. He has been good for the program, and most of all, good to its players.
What's the deal with allthe Strong backers pouring in here and spewing hate? Until someone is hired, everyone has the right to back whomever he or she wishes to back. Some of us are still hoping for Gruden. Nothing wrong with that.
Hey, I just want to throw this out there - and you have to go back to the 90's to remember this (so this eliminates quite a few of you).
How many seasons in a row, did UT play on TV and Phil Fulmer was introduced as "the winningest active coach in college football". I think that went on for years and he was up around 85%. I know he fell from grace, but dang, just thing how far we've fallen.
That statistic wasn't just a one season pop. It lasted a long time. That and our "We don't lose in November" statistic. Sure miss those days.
I'm beginning to think there is a new generation of VOLS fans that don't quite have an understanding of where we came from. We need the right guy.
