When people add "like a lightbulb", "like monopoly" or "like george washington" to while singing Rudolph...I cringe down to my very soul. I just want to smack them and say "congrats...you just ruined the song"

Now that's funny.

Funny how Jimmy Cheek thinks that the suspended annual funds ($6m/yr) from the Athletics Dept will only last for three years. They'll likely never get money from them again- can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

Strong to decline offer/Smart staying at bama

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sources on twitter say that Strong is really wrestling with this decision. Meanwhile, Smart's package has been enhanced at bama (have fun with that one).

TennesseeBeat More via @ericcrawford , some in Louisville athletic department believe Strong will stay or is wrestling w/ decision.

GrantRamey RT @ronmusselman8: Say, what? RT @footballscoop: Source tells us Kirby Smart agreed to an enhanced package today with Alabama.

Maybe all the anger people who have invaded will go away now.

Strong is the best hire for this program post Gruden talk.

This is a freaking grand slam.

Al Wilson and Leonard Little are pumped, I hope to see them around the program a lot.

More like a bloop single but since so many folks are completely willing to settle for the girl with a "great personality" rather than take a chance with the smokin' hot centerfold woman we'll have to deal with a divided fanbase and half empty Neyland for the time being.

Then, by all means, please state in a well-structured and logical argument why you think Strong does not deserve to be the HC at UT? I hope you're not implying that the AD is not qualified to do its job.

If you need something to start from, I'll gladly post his resume for you.

Only if you agree to stating a well-structured and logical argument why you think Strong deserves the job

Because I brought info that I told you all I didn't believe? Lol. Sorry.

And it's not an "I told you so" motive.

It's a "Get off Gruden's dick and appreciate the great hire we're about to make." I don't want anyone to have their hearts totally set on Gruden, because that was never going to happen, and it makes every other candidate look bad.

Who is the great hire? I thought the rumor was that Strong was coming....

The point is that Dooley was FIRED in no small part because of that loss to Kentucky. Fired to hopefully make way for a better coach.

And Charlie Strong, who lost to UConn and Syracuse is Dooley's replacement? Is expected to turn the program around? A guy with ONE HC position on his resume?

Please.

Agreed.......go gruden! Regardless!

Hey, I just want to throw this out there - and you have to go back to the 90's to remember this (so this eliminates quite a few of you).

How many seasons in a row, did UT play on TV and Phil Fulmer was introduced as "the winningest active coach in college football". I think that went on for years and he was up around 85%. I know he fell from grace, but dang, just thing how far we've fallen.

That statistic wasn't just a one season pop. It lasted a long time. That and our "We don't lose in November" statistic. Sure miss those days.

I'm beginning to think there is a new generation of VOLS fans that don't quite have an understanding of where we came from. We need the right guy.

Yes indeed
I also remember a FL game in the early 90s. The reporter on the sidelines had a decibel meter and it was are 100. That place was rocking.

I'm starting to think Strong won't leave. UofL is set up for another BCS run next year and we're a wreck. Another good year at the Ville and Strong can probably get himself one of those top 20 job that John Adams wrote about.

I actually agree with you, Louisville is going to the ACC next year, they are willing to outbid us for Strong, and he has it much easier there, he could get 4 million without working nearly as hard.

Until Strong comes to UT

I do not like Strong AT ALL but for you to say he is worse than Dooley...I have no words for this. Do you actually watch football? Did you get lost going to the Call of Duty forum or something.........

He has about the same winning percentage as Nick Saban did before he went to LSU. BUT....not nearly the same sample size. To me, I feel that a coach should stay at a school for 4 years to get an idea if he's worth his salt.

Dooley, it didn't take that long. But I want to see if Strong can have constant success. That shows if he can run a program. Saban, Miles, Meyer had consistency. Going from 7-6, 7-6, 10-2 doesn't show that to me. If he can do it next year, then sure. But unfortunately, we need a coach this year.

That being said.....

If Gruden is not happening, then Strong is the guy I want. I feel like he is the hottest name out there that is legit.

But I think Gruden is still happening.

Wow. I read this whole Boro thread and feel like I just witnessed the wavering of one of the biggest OGs.

I'll take this as as much of a concession as Boro will give to the untruth of the Gruden talk.

I understand. You believe what you believe until you dont anymore.

Life sucks. Being a Vol fan certainly has sucked for a long time now.

Hope you feel better soon Boro, buddy. The sun will shine tomorrow. Go Vols.

How did I waver? I responded, more emotionally than rationally earlier. And I posted to fix some ill advised statements.

My last sentence sums up my belief though. My info, though limited since last week, has not changed.

It's still not over until Strong or some other lackluster hire is walked to the podium.

Here's my question...if we're at the point of Strong turning down our "offer", then what could possibly lead us to believe that this road will end at Gruden? I mean, if it's true we're actually offering other coaches, then we've moved on right? Or is it just hearsay that we've actually "offered" anyone anything?

I want to believe that Gruden is still a possibility, but my hope is dwindling. I hope that the OGs have been right all along. If it is Strong, I'll support him 100%. Either way, it still is and always will be great to be a Tennessee Vol.

ptcarter: I remember those days and I really miss them. My kid just asked me "what are you doing" I replied with "trying to find out who UTs coach is going to be. I just want it to be like old times when teams like bama and georgia knew they were going to lose when they played us" she then said "no one is scared of ut anymore" I sent her to her room. True story!
