I have actually enjoyed reading this forum over the past few weeks, but I just can't handle all if this blind negativity and hate.

My ignore button is only capable of so much unfortunately.

I really think these negative people need a drink or a Xanax.

no alcohol...you can tell they are mean drunks

hahah ok, so he was here for the "herb" like Oregon folks say....

No he was great with the ball in his hands...just don't think he was here for the team as much as himself....you made reference that us fans should seemingly support anyone hired, regardless and be team players...see my point?

Then why did Hub Arkush say talks were ongoing? You really doubt a solid professional reporter like that?

I also find it funny no one can ever provide documentation of the tampering rules in question. So there's that.

I provided the link!

And look at how many coaches have got penalized for violating the anti-tampering rules even for unintentional violations.

If I were Dave Hart and I hired Strong then I would announce it at like 2:00am to avoid some of the attention on how he got worked. "Nothing to see here folks, I just made the biggest hire of my career and the history of TN football and I locked down the 10th worst coach in the conference to coach TN football for several years." If true, it sucks but not much we can do about it.

Strong to decline offer/Smart staying at bama

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sources on twitter say that Strong is really wrestling with this decision. Meanwhile, Smart's package has been enhanced at bama (have fun with that one).

TennesseeBeat More via @ericcrawford , some in Louisville athletic department believe Strong will stay or is wrestling w/ decision.

GrantRamey RT @ronmusselman8: Say, what? RT @footballscoop: Source tells us Kirby Smart agreed to an enhanced package today with Alabama.

a passage from Eric Crawford who covers Louisville sports for WDRB :

Different people measure it different ways. I measure it by the job that is done. In three seasons, Charlie Strong took U of L's program from chaos to the Sugar Bowl. He gave the program Teddy Bridgewater and a slew of talented young players. He gave direction and shape to the program off the field, requiring community service of his players and leading it to unprecedented academic levels. He brought the program from the brink of APR penalty, and improved it to the point where the ACC accepted U of L as a member -- based largely on its on-field performance in the most important sports.

Whether Strong leaves or stays, he has lived up to much of his end of the deal. He has been good for the program, and most of all, good to its players.

So Gruden not being hired is to blame not the economy and Obama being re-elected? which one is it?

Lol you're an idiot. Was Neyland not packed and rocking for the Florida game this year? People are not going to buy a crap product. It is that simple.

If Strong is indeed hired and it looks like that is the case, it would be interesting for those who claim to have inside information to surmise where their informants went so wrong on this. I doubt that they were intentionally lying. Were they, as carter stated, passing along their desires more htan the facts?

PS-I wanted Gruden too.

Most of them had "sources" connected to boosters.

Boosters wanted Gruden.

But all along I warned that "big money" boosters dont call the shots. Hart calls the shots no matter what anyone thinks.

If Gruden were ever a really serious candidate, it would seem that Hart shot it down for reasons we will most certainly never know.

Minus the lunatics in this thread, right? I've never seen a more negative reaction for UT football in my life.

It's amazing how hostile this thread becomes when you share information quite frankly stating that Jon Gruden is no longer a possibility.

Nothing in this thread is negative towards the Vols. We just don't want to see this program totally demolished by this AD. There are some here that are Gruden or nobody but there are several coaches that I think deserve to be the HC of UT

Funny how all the media members have sources on Strong. None of the OG's think it will be Strong.

If A is the source for B
B is the source for C
and C is the source for A

Does anybody really have sources? I will believe a coach is hired when they walk to the podium after hearing that Arkansas crap today.

Enhanced package? Is that what they call it these days?

Of the coaches they have mentioned Strong is by far the best, and he certainly would likely improve our defense.....but I do not think he will be a SEC championship coach. He's an awesome defensive coordinator, but I don't see him exactly dissecting other shools defenses, and or recruiting to the level we need. If it is him I hope I am proven wrong. I think people want to make him into the next Tony Dungy....and I just don't see it.

Still hoping for Gruden, if it's Strong I will support him as a UT coach. That said I think UT would end up sucking the life out of Charlie Strong. The fans want immediate results which is not likely to improve that quickly even if Gruden were announced tomorrow. When things don't improve as fast as they want, the criticism will began...and sadly people may take it out of context....in any case...he's building agood HC career at Louisville, Tennessee is ripe for a 4 year failure, and hostile fans....I don't know why he'd come.

After 4 years even Gruden might regret it....:p But that's why you lock him in for 8 :D

Face it we have become the new Alabama of the 90's chasing good coaches away, and impossible to please, yet not willing to pay the price to do it right.

One thing about the huge excitement over Gruden is the All-Star staff he would assemble. Are we going to get anything remotely similar to that with the presumed Strong hire?

When people add "like a lightbulb", "like monopoly" or "like george washington" to while singing Rudolph...I cringe down to my very soul. I just want to smack them and say "congrats...you just ruined the song"

We it not you supporting the Chattanooga reporter yesterday? If not, my apologies.

I was supporting the Chattanooga reporter and will continue to support him because what he wrote was true. I can tell you he had an impeccable source and we will see how all this plays out.

I don't think Strong is it but I think this attention will be good for him just like it was/is for Gundy.

Time will tell but until we see an official announcement I will continue to believe Gruden is the man. Could I be wrong? Sure, but I think he is the best possible candidate to bring UT back from mediocrity.

Oh and in case you missed it I don't even like the Chattanooga reporter but I know him to be very honest. I just don't like his reporting style.

God forbid he tell the truth and say at this time I'm not sure what my future holds and you will be playing for a great university and not the coach. Whether I'm here or X is here the U of L will offer you a bright future."

Coaches have to protect their jobs.

Don't act like he's the only one that's done this. It happens many, many times every single year.
