Official Jon Gruden Thread XV

Not much from the Jon Gruden interview, but I did hear him say "here in Tampa", and that he has been up already this morning watching Patriots game film for next Monday night.

Right now, Dave Hart is getting every coach in the country a helluva raise.

If this story pans out like we want, I suggest we open a post hire thread named:

The Book of Jon

We can all rest there in peace

Not sure if I would call malzahn a step forward. 1yr hc. Cam Newton, unproven all the way around
"unproven all way around"...aside from having the #1 offense at Tulsa in year 1, #2 offense at Tulsa in year 2, a top 25 offense in one year at Arky (significant improvement), NC at Auburn, and the #17 offense his first year at Arky State.

They need to have a presser and tell everyone grude is comin, but he is gonna finish MNF. His staff can handle things till then!

Malzahn is a beast. The man can coach.

IMO you cant put players out there to fuel the fire until he announces what hes doing

I agree completely. This also means they have no idea what he is going to do. In they knew he was turning us down this morning I can't think of a better time for the team to do a public appearance and sell more sugar bowl tickets.

I agree. This is what I can't wrap my head around. If we have grude and this is a smokescreen, then why are we offering other coaches the job? Any ideas anyone?

Come on grude!

I posted this yesterday, I've thought this a smart process for dealing with a potential wishy washy coach that may be highly sought after:

After reviewing the facts/rumors presented over the past few months I can 100% say harts original plan was to talk to Gruden and work out ballpark figures/terms and proceed with the hiring process as if he doesn't exist. This gives him leverage/insurance on Gruden, knowing if BOTH sides don't meet in the middle there IS a guy lined up ready to sign the contract. Tennessee is the top available job in the NCAA, in the top conference but in a division that is generally very fluid compared to the west. Also a school he has emotional attachment to. And if Gruden changes his mind at any point in the (approximately) 3 months they've been talking, UT has a viable backup option that will still be seen as a success. The thing is, Dooley made a HUGE problem by how bad the team performed late in the season. Had he beaten vanderbilt, he would have been coach for the Kentucky game, and likely fired after. All accounts point to Gruden talks starting as early as before Miss St., and at the time there was no reason to think we wouldn't make a bowl game. I firmly believe the plan was to fire Dooley after the bowl game and announce Gruden in one swift move. Why? How many NFL/NCAA teams do you think want Gruden? They ALL think he's off the table, but if they hear him negotiating with us it opens the door to offers we probably can't match. That's Hart's reason. But why would Gruden go along with this? Over $1.5 million he stood to receive after the Kentucky game in MNF $$$. A coaching announcement would seriously jeopardize that $$ that's already virtually in the bag However, the extra week + pre-bowl time that we didn't get started the media frenzy WAY too early. Hart needed a smokescreen so it would not look like he's incompetent. Gruden rumors still surfaced though because no respectable coach would be caught interviewing before the end if the season and people know Hart is indeed competent, so hart needed to misdirect until other candidates could be interviewed. (Which is why Hyams kept scooping flip-floppy stories on meeting/no meeting/Grude talks/no Grude talks ever) Gruden's agent followed suit because he also stood to make some of that sweet MNF $$$. I think long, long ago he decided he wanted Gundy if Gruden fell through. Why? HE IS THE ONLY GUY THAT'S BEEN ON OUR LIST THAT IS NOT IN A GREAT POSITION TO GET AN EXTENSION!!! I'd bet the farm ALL other candidates are on the list because they seem like 'solid hires'. Imagine Hart walking up to Strong. "Hey, you mind interviewing with us? We've got another guy but it would help us out and you could probably nearly double your salary." I'd take him up on that. Question is: did the Gruden talks fall through or not?....wait and see. There will be a point that it is down to seemingly only Gundy (even more sure than Strong was to be our coach yesterday)...but I'm very much sure (even moreso after watching this Strong thing play out) that a different fella will be announced...BOOM!!!

I think presser unlikely today but I am 90per sure we get concrete reports of who the coach will be.

I agree with you.

If not; then, I believe Hart has to step up to the mic with the man.

All things equal..... Hart has some explaining to do in a pc.

It is interesting that the article originally had bridgewater and then it was changed to strong's picture.

I didn't want Strong, but how embarrassing is it that Strong turned us down (if he did)! We got the stank on us...can't shake it......

If there is no official word from UT today I don't think it will be Strong. I can't see him allowing this cloud to linger. He'll either squash it or accept it. JMO

When this thing is over, how ever it ends. I hope we can establish a thread that we can all hang out in. I can't stand the thought of the FF forum. There are some good folks in this thread.
