Lol KK nick , not even really trying to bash anyone , Just pointing out some of the inconsistency's in this whole story line .

I'm certain of two things:

1, the plot put together in here was not accurate.
2, what we are officially being told is not true either.

Still believe in Hargis's sources and that Gruden did get far enough to put out feelers for asst coaches...... What happened? It will come out over time.

Starting now I'm making my list, and checking it twice, going to find out who's naughty and nice.....

First time I'm posting in any of the Gruden threads. I never was a grudenite (wont get into why because its not relevant) but I applaud each and every single one of you because #1 your faith in Mr. G coming here was spectacular. #2 is because reading these threads have been the most fun I've ever had on these boards! From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry y'all didn't get your man!! GBO!!

I just got in from work and checking emails and what do I find? UTAD email wanteing me to renew season tickets and a donation. My response was: NO! Jimmy Cheek has been on a mission to hamper and destroy UT student athletes with ridiculous policies. Mike Hamilton and Dave Hart have further desroyed the football program with ill timed sub par hires. UT is in the top 10 of all time wins in NCAA division 1 football and was a well respected program. The efforts of these three individuals has transformed us into an irrelevant program that is ridiculed and treated with no respect in the national sports media. They have turned their backs on the former student athletes, coaches, boosters, and general alumni that has participated in the building of the athletic programs at UT. I have been attending football games since 1981, and traveled to away games in Alabam, Georgia, Louisiana and have gone to bowl games in New Orleans, Atlanta, Nashville, and Florida. But unfortunately I can no longer support UT athletics thru season ticket purchases and donations until Mr. Cheek nad Mr. Hart are removed from their positions and the damage to this university are reversed. I will continue to petition the state BOT about the deep seeded problems here. Thank you.

He may be terrible he may be great but until he proves one way or another may as well support him just my thinking

I applaud you for taking the high road. I am not investing emotion or my dollars until he proves it. I jumped on the Dooley train and you see what that got me. I'm on the prove it too me first train now. Is that fair? I don't know but that's what I am going with. The UT administration slapped the fan base in the face today.

Gman were you hearing anything last night 10-11?

Im trying to put the pieces together.

Also what is your "vibe" on whether the "boosters" woke up as surprised as we did

I wasn't feeling any vibes per say, just felt like the longer it went the better our chances were with Chucky.

I can't see Hart calling boosters at 4 in the morning to tell them he hired a coach. I think he acted on his own and decided to take the ask for forgiveness later approach.

Hart is a Bama grad and I cannot see him as having the best interest of the Vols in making his hire. Hart and his 2 Bama assistants should be run out of town no matter what kind of coach Jones turns out to be.

I stand firm with the TFP story last Friday. Hart's ego flipped fans and boosters the finger and he blew up the Gruden deal. He had the chance to be linked to one of the best hires in football but chose his ego over what was best for UT. Again Basilio warned us weeks ago that he does not like boosters to tell him what to do.

IMO if Hart had hired Gruden he would have had to of moved his family out of that state because Saban would no longer be the crown jewel in the SEC. Can you imagine the hate and lengths the Bammers would have went to against his family, not to mention why would he make an hire that would cause all of that to his Alma Mater.

Then boosters should hire a better AD next time . Why did they hire hart in the first place ?

With ya....I was on verge of having to anyway, having much more to do with election and what it means for my income, but if had been a more exciting hire I would have found a way.....don't feel the same now, will prob go to first game maybe a few others, but not shelling out full season for this.

Oh sometimes even when you know it's a delusion, but the truth is utterly horrifying you just take a few more shots and hold to the delusion while you can....

I jumped on the Gruden-train late (around thread XI or early in XII - doesn't matter really). I have no sources and my only connection to UT's administration - aside from the diploma on my office wall - are the monthly or quarterly emails hitting me up for donations. I jumped in as a believer because I wanted to believe, and because I know very well professionally how many deals and arrangements are created out of the basis of common understandings and behind the scenes contacts. Too many people were showing too much confidence. To this outside observer/late-comer looking in, there was WAY TOO MUCH SMOKE for there not to be some fire smoldering brightly and for long enough that far too many people had good insights into the deal being made.

Why and how it fell apart is going to be a fascinating and infuriating story for a lot of us, when and if it ever comes to light. I'm sure if Hargis can put together enough documentation for a series of three or four articles, it could mean a sportswriting Pulitzer for him. But all that will come months or perhaps even years later. Hopefully we won't be on the next coach by then but I have doubts that poor CBJ will be able to get it done, hamstrung as he is by a greatly divided fanbase and poor administration support.

Now all that said, and as an aside to those drive-by trolls trying to take potshots at Gruden's supposed MOU, I have a good deal of experience in formal agreements and documentation for same. An MOU is, essentially, a preliminary contract, an "agreement to agree" for lack of a better term. They are binding AS TO WHAT THE PARTIES AGREE TO. If Gruden had an executed MOU in-hand a few weeks ago, there is absolutely 100% no question but that it was a VASTLY DIFFERENT AGREEMENT than the one presented for Butch Jones today. Gruden's MOU would say that he agrees to Coach IF x, y, and z are met. One of those x's, y's or z's is almost certainly the right to keep it confidential until every single one of the rest of those provisions is satisfied. At that time, the preliminary agreement would be superseded by a finalized MOU similar to what we saw today, and then a formal university employment contract down the line.
