I agree that officiating has been bad overall in the tournament, the Illinois tech, UNC’s elbow ejection (yes, that’s me saying that). Tonight it probably was the wrong call, but people need stop pretending that’s why Duke won. Duke won because Jeremy Roach played the game of his life tonight, and Trevor Keels found his game again.
MSU shouldn’t have thrown the ball away late and given themselves an opportunity. The Duke player was driving after that throw away and he shoved the defender for all to see but it was somehow called a block. MSU didn’t make the shots needed down the stretch but the refs did make an atrocious call, which is the theme for this entire tournament so far. It’s a shame that refs in all these close games are overshadowing a lot great games. It’s not just this game, they’ve been bad in almost every game.People saying Duke won because of the refs don’t know what they are watching
The game changed when Keels was bailed out driving the lane at the end. He was out of control and threw it up. From there on it was a FT fest.I agree that officiating has been bad overall in the tournament, the Illinois tech, UNC’s elbow ejection (yes, that’s me saying that). How is that not a foul on Smith!!??? He laid a guy out on the block. It was clean up top but he knocked him in the 3rd row.
It seems like everyone always wants to talk about the missed calls on Duke. I can think of at least 4 different instances of a Duke guy getting hammered in the lane tonight and no call being made. Duke made big shots down the stretch and got stops when they needed to.The game changed when Keels was bailed out driving the lane at the end. He was out of control and threw it up. I’m the only one in our pool who picked this one and it was for that reason combined with AU’s inability to win on the road vs a team with a pulse. They were paper tigers this year (no pun intended) and mirage with their schedule.Experience wins out again…Miami’s average starting 5 is 23 years old.
