VN goes overboard with the cynicism. There is nothing to indicate the refs are unfairly favoring Duke in this tournament.
The NCAA's Selection Committee is a different story. I'm just talking about the officiating that I've seen in this tournament.Maybe if you only look at refs CALLS. There is also HOW the refs chose to call the games and how the committee chooses to create easy paths. It is naive to think that Duke, UNC, and Kansas don’t get treated differently. Usually those Carolina teams end up with de facto home games not far from their campuses. Sometimes never having to rave their home areas until the Final Four.
The NCAA doesn’t care as much about which team wins. They care about the ratings and the money. Michigan got in because they have a huge following. They did not earn it on the court.

Texas Tech got a fair shake Thursday night. They had their chances. Duke simply outplayed them in the 2nd half.
I call BS. If the NCAA cooks March Madness, the ratings will suffer in the end because nobody wants to watch WWE-style basketball. They are under a microscope and everybody is watching in high definition. They can’t blatantly miss calls. But when they do, there will not be replays from multiple angles to highlight the chosen benefiting from crappy calls.

Will star players/programs get calls like the NBA and NFL? Yep, that's just a fact of sports.
Will they hand it to Coach K obviously? Not at all.
Some folks just scream "it's all rigged" at every game and every turn. That's a very lazy take.
