Official Seed List Watch Party Thread

Still a 3-seed according to Lunardi. Greensboro. Second round matchup against Creighton would be tough, but the rest of the region isn’t that bad.

2nd round vs creighton would be real tough, that would be a battle for sure

northwestern has some crafty guards, but i’d def take them over any of those 6 seeds

Here are the non-SEC teams hovering around in that 5-9 seed range now that we would most likely be matched up against in the 2nd round:

Teams to avoid:
Saint Mary's:
want no part of this team. They play extremely slow, but can stroke it. Their defense is top 10 as well
Creighton: again, no thanks. Had that inexplicable 6 game losing streak, but playing much better again. I'd like for them to win out and end up as a 4 or 5
TCU: They have 10 losses, but 5 of those were without their stud Miles. Put them in the "no thanks" section.
Duke: This team is oozing with talent. I'm not sure they're well coached or that it will ever come together this year. But I'd rather someone else have to face them than us. Like Creighton, I'm hoping they win out and land on the 4/5 line
San Diego State: not saying I would necessarily be afraid of the Aztecs, but they're kind of in the Saint Mary's mold. Little bit more tempo and not quite as good offensively or defensively, but that would be tough
Miami: Their guard play would give us fits and they know how to win in the tournament.

Rock Fight Central:
Iowa State:
only Saint Mary's plays slower of this group of teams. Not a lot of offense, but really good defensively.
Rutgers: they play right about the same tempo as us and have been just behind us in the defensive rankings pretty much all season. Our offense, on paper, should be enough to win.

Bring Them On:
Maryland:
They play very slow, and while decent offensively and defensively, we are better than this team.
Iowa: In the last 15 years, we've beaten 3 power conference teams in the NCAA Tournament. 2 of those 3 were against Iowa. They can stroke it, and they play fast. They also play no defense. It's a game we could get run out of the gym, or a game where we give up a 25 point lead like 2019.
Michigan State: very similar to Maryland. Slow, plodding style of play and just kind of decent overall.
Pittsburgh: fairly slow tempo with not a lot of defense being played. They launch 3's and when that doesn't work, they launch some more. What do we do well? Defend the perimeter.
NC State: I can't say I've watched a ton of NC State this year. They play pretty fast (4th highest tempo of teams in this group). They don't really seem to be amazing at anything except for not turning the ball over. I know they have DJ Burns and several guards that could give us trouble. I have them in the "bring them on" section, but if I'm being honest, they're probably down the list a ways.

Just Not Sure About:
Northwestern:
Very slow tempo. They're a decent team overall. They're good at turning you over and not turning it over themselves. Just haven't seen enough to know
Illinois: I'm leaning towards putting this group in the "bring them on" section. Nothing really stands out about them. I just haven't watched 1 second of an Illinois game this year.
Providence: Experience of winning in the tournament is a powerful thing. They just kind of seem like they're one of those all-around-good teams. Don't have an informed opinion about them yet.

Pretty much completely agree

Any draw in the tournament is bound to be a tough out. That being said, as accurate as Lunardi is historically with teams in the field and often with in one place on seeding, he is 50/50 at best on regional placements. We could be a #3 paired with a #6 SDSU, Maryland, or St. Mary’s, for all we know.

Just 1 game tonight…
9pm: Baylor vs. Oklahoma State

Big opportunity, an Oklahoma State win would definitely crack the door a bit more for a 2 seed.
Do they take injuries to starters into account when seeding? Like would they drop us down with Zeigler injured? I don’t think so but I’m not sure

They could use it as a tiebreaker. Cincinnati was dropped from a 1 seed after Kenyon Martin was hurt in the last week of the season about 24 years ago.

If it happens to us, possibly a drop down. If it happens to a team like UNC, they bump them up a seed and give them more tourney games in NC to make it easier on them....

6 seeds right now are Creighton, Kentucky, Iowa State, and Northwestern. Really don't want to play any of them lol

Creighton was lights out early on and then had their own injury problems. They are a dangerous team
