Official Seed List Watch Party Thread

So with us basically being a lock for a 3/4 seed, what are some potential 14/13 seeds that we could play? Some to avoid? Also what are some possible 2nd round matchups that we want to see?

I don’t think that the opponent matters as much as the refs will. Calling ticky tack touches tends to wreck TN’s chances. The deeper into the rounds, the less disruptive the refs usually are. They love to give assists to the Cinderellas in the first week. Viewership (and advertising revenue) would suffer if a bunch of 17-32 seeds don’t advance.

We don’t need to see any P-5s that barely made it off of the bubble. Like Michigan last year and Oregon State (PAC12T winner) before that.

Honestly, I hate seeing this. Just means that the lower seeds will be weaker and less of a threat to pull off crazy upsets in Round 1. Plus, feel bad for the top team in those one bid leagues who were the clear best team all year and had one bad game and are now bounced. Brutal.

I agree but it goes both ways, could potentially help Tennessee in round 1 as well.

Or smaller conferences could award the AQ to the regular season winner and ship the tourney winner to the NIT. Or, do the WCC format.

The athletic has us as a 4 vs. Yale, in the same region as Saint Mary's (5) and Kansas (1)

Creighton would be an incredibly difficult draw for us even WITH ZZ. Tough defensive team, with some legit scorers in that lineup. Alexander, Nembhard, and Kaluma can all get tough baskets when needed. Plus they have size to match with Kalkbrenner. Not even mentioning Scheierman who has ridiculous three point range. I watch a ton of the Bluejays games, as my Dad graduated from there. We want no part of them as a potential second match up.

Ideally Creighton wins a few games and hopefully moves up into that 5 range, if they aren’t already there, that’s gonna be a team nobody wants to draw. Big St. Mary’s fan tonight, they likely won’t surpass us with a win over Gonzaga but we are neck and neck with Zags on the 3 seed line and a loss from them increases our chances of staying there.

At this point I'm pulling for Iowa State or Northwestern to be the 6 (assuming we stay a 3). Both teams that play nice and slow and don't have dynamic offenses or quick, little PG's. I might add Michigan State in there as well, but 4 of their top 5 scorers shoot +40% from 3.

Don't want Creighton, Duke, Miami, or TCU.

Yeah, no thanks on Crieghton or Duke. Honestly, I’m not so sure our path as a 4-seed wouldn’t be easier. Some of these 6-seeds right now look brutally tough.

TCU, Kentucky, Creighton & Texas A&M per matrix…we wouldn’t get Kentucky or A&M so that’s TCU or Creighton.

creighton would be a tough draw, but we most certainly could beat them. i’ve seen them be really up and down this year. we would match up well with them.

So Tennessee is flirting with the 3/4 line as of today, don’t see any 2’s falling that far even with an opening loss so looking at just 3-5 seed lines (12 teams).

9. Marquette
10. Gonzaga(done playing)
11. Kansas State
12. Tennessee
————————
13. Connecticut
14. Xavier
15. Indiana
16. Virginia
————————
17. Miami
18. San Diego State
19. St. Mary’s(done playing)
20. Iowa State

With a win today I think we are safely 4 seed or better, may already be the case but I wouldn’t open that door by losing to a bad team today.

IMO, playing Louisiana would be intriguing. Their PG is a guy I would be very interested in if he entered the transfer portal.

Todays games to watch:
12:00pm: St. John’s vs. Marquette
12:00pm: Wake Forest vs. Miami
12:30pm: Iowa State vs. Baylor
2:30pm: Providence vs. Connecticut
3:00pm: Colorado State vs. San Diego State
7:00pm: North Carolina vs. Virginia
7:00pm: DePaul vs. Xavier
9:30pm: TCU vs. Kansas State

Normally, I’d say tournament wins equal .10 wins vs regular season wins . With losing 6/10, losing ZZ, getting a low tournament seed, I think it would be easy for the committee to punish us for an early exit. Not landing at 5 is really important. I think winning two puts us into a strong possibility for a 3. One win is playing with fire. Zero gets us on the bad side of a 4. Obviously endless variables, but we’re walking the tightrope.

Agreed. We really need to bring our A game today. Ole Miss played us really tough in Oxford. They’re going to be hungry and we can’t afford to lose to a bad team. Hope we put the game away early.
