Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Beltran is killing it so far this year. He looks to be in better shape then he's been in a while. Wouldn't surprise me to see him hitting 4th with the big puma out. It will be interesting to see how his numbers compare to Pujols at the end of the season. Pujols will start hitting soon.

Pujols started slowly last year, too. He's a great hitter and will come around. But honestly, how many Cards fans are taking just a little bit of pleasure in the Angels' early struggles?

lol.. I really don't mind seeing him struggle to this point. I still like him and he will hit soon.

I believe this maybe his toughest start. But he will start hitting.
I really don't have any ill will towards Albert. We couldn't afford him and that was just way to much $ to turn down.

The Cardinals could have pushed harder two years ago to lock Pujols up but they didn't. I don't blame Pujols for taking the money at all but I also really don't care how well he plays for the Angels.

He gave us 11 great years. He was the perfect team player and citizen and role model. He will go into the HOF wearing a Cards uniform. He won't get a statue out front of Busch but he will always have my respect. Unless he plays us I wish him nothing but the best.
And yes we could have pushed harder but we couldn't afford him and the front office knew it. They offered more than we can really afford and it wasn't enough. It's just one of thos tough situations that sucks.

Always nice to win the first game of a series.

I wonder who will get hurt in center tomorrow?

Exactly. Like any random Cardinals fan would've turned down that contract.

Sitting here, right now I would. Being a player of Pujols' caliber, not sure. What he was offered by the Cardinals was a ton of money. There isn't anything he can buy now that he couldn't earlier. His family is set both ways.

More money or the chance to be a god of STL and the best player ever for an organization?

He was already the god of STL. I guess you'd turn down over 50 million.

I also believe his wife wanted to move to LA

I meant the god forever. He had the chance to overtake Stan.

Again, it's not a fair question. Right now, yes I would but I can't comprehend having that much money to begin with. I can't imagine that an extra $50 million makes him feel that much better right now...

We'll see how he really feels if his slump carries add long as it did last year..

I think he feels absolutely FINE right now. Absolutely fine.

He's hitting right at .300 and leading the league in doubles.

I always laugh at people who are quick to turn down money for other people. He made the right decision and so did the Cards.

If wishing someone had stayed with the team they started with then I guess I'm turning down money for others.

I understand why he left. We can argue all day if we think it was the correct decision or not.

The Cardinals will be fine without him as they have been before him.

Major League Baseball and the Players Association have agreed to do away with performance-based incentive and personal service clauses of the kind incorporated into first baseman Albert Pujols' 10-year agreement with the Los Angeles Angels.

The best personal service contract of all times has to be the fleecing that Bruce Sutter gave Ted Turner. I think Bruce still gets a million a year for cutting Teds grass.

We all wish he'd have stayed. But the truth is we couldn't afford him and what we offered was more than we could afford for one player. I don't blame him or the guys in the front office. I think both made wise decisions. And I have no ill feelings for either.

We're getting into a really bad pattern the past few games of leaving WAY to many runners stranded.
And I wish Matheny would have pulled Motte. It was clear he was off his game. Jaime deserved that win. I put that blown game on Matheny and Motte.

Beautiful day to be at the park and another solid win.
I really like Matheny's aggressive approach. U can tell the players are responding big time. The guys are having a lot of fun with his style.
