STL isn't a small market but it doesn't freespend like New York, Boston, and Chicago. Granted, most franchises can't freespend anyway.STL puts more emphasis on development through its farm system than any other franchise, and it shows why the club has been successful. They don't have the luxury of throwing money around like the Yankees, unfortunately.
I'll take Mozeliak over any GM in baseball.
Not a joke. And not a definitive statement one way or the other. The idk man was serious. I think Tampa bays player development gets a bit overrated. They're good with trades and such. Incredibly well run.
Longoria and Price aren't exactly reaches that ONLY the rays could have seen. He was the #1 overall pick. Great major league players, though. Nationals are a great organization for having Stephen Strasburg.
They traded for Chris Archer, iirc. Idk if I would consider Jake McGee the cats pajamas but he's a good reliever.
Cobb and Hellickson are solid for sure.
Tampa's farm system is top notch. They don't have as much history or fan support ,so they have to be very methodical with what they do. I have a lot of respect for that organization. Going from the worst franchise in baseball 10 years ago to a much respected organization now is no easy task. Oakland and Tampa Bay are the feel good stories of baseball. I'm also glad to see Baltimore and Pittsburgh good again.
The thing about the Cardinals is that they are already very good, and when you look at the prospects coming up, Wacha, Martinez, Wong, and Taveras just to name a few, that's just more talent to stockpile. I give a lot of credit to the Cards FO and scouting department for putting the franchise in this position. I feel great about the future.
I also forgot to say that the Astros, as laughable as they are right now, could be very good in a few years, if they keep the core in their farm system and develop it well.
They got an outfielder. George Springer. I don't know much about him, but dude hits a ton. Saw him when the OKC Redhawks were playing a series in Memphis against the Redbirds.
He hit the hardest homerun I've ever seen in person. A straight line to left that was just starting to level off when it hit the bluff. Never seen a ball clear the field that fast.
It's going to be a ton of fun down the stretch. STL, Pittsburgh, and Cincy all within 2.5 games of each other. Cincy is 7 games clear of Arizona so no one is in danger of missing the playoffs right now.
