Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

This move's perception just comes down to what people expected the Cards will do. They don't do many blockbuster trades. So the people that were thinking Price or Lester are going to be disappointed. Seems like every year we pick up someone that's been down or played average, then they come in a play pretty well for us.

Masterson will hopefully come in and be a solid pitcher. On one hand I hate that we're getting a guy that's been hurt this year, but on the other maybe that's why he's been a weak pitcher this year and needed some time on the DL to mend. I've read he's tried to play a little hurt so far.

Doesn't bother me. I'm not a fan of making a blockbuster trade for a rental most of the time unless you get a commitment ala Holliday.

I like the move as well. It's another low-risk, high-upside acquisition along with the fact that we a recruit out that virtually had zero chance of moving up to the Majors as a Cardinal. We could easily see another deal of this type before the deadline.

Initial reaction is I do not like the John Lackey deal at all. Not for Joe Kelly and Allen Craig. Lost too much.

I would rather give Taveras more ABs than wait for a guy who clearly has lost something at the plate yet Matheny continues to trout out there on a daily basis.

Kelly I hate to lose but he was never a long-term fixture in the rotation.

I really wanted Price, but only having to pay Lackey 500k is a steal. I don't mind losing Craig, but I hate seeing Kelly go. I really feel like he will be successful in Boston. Craig became another Freese to me.

So then we essentially traded Ramsey for a half year starter. We already have Wainwright, Lynn, Wacha, and Miller next year. Assuming we keep Lackey for 2015, where does Masterson fit in for 2015? I don't see the Cardinals paying him the 17 million per year he wanted from the Indians.

I don't see what the problem is even if he only plays for us this season. If we does well, he still won't be offered a new contract. If he doesn't then he can go play for the Astros.

I feel like it's been ages since we won a game. Not the best start for Masterson, but it's good to see so much run support. Wong and Taveras are both starting to put the pieces together.

Wild comeback attempt last night. Either shelby is in a sophomore slump or he's in denial that his best friend was traded. maybe even both.

Rosenthal scares the s*** out of me. If this team has postseason aspirations I would feel a lot better with Neshek in that role.

We can't keep a reliable closer for crap lately. New guy every year for years. Franklin, Salas, Motte, Mujica, Rosenthal. And Rosenthal is giving up more than last year.
