Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Disappointed in Wainwright and Neshek. Matheny looked like he didn't care. Why play if you're not into it. Looked like a pro bowl or nba all star effort tonight.

Definitely disappointing and will only add fuel to the flames for the naysayers that wanted Kershaw to start. Extreme Kershaw fanatics might even use this All-Star game as justification for their choice as Kershaw as the deserving Cy Young winner

Extreme wainwright fanatics might go with "their guy" in the ASG and blow it for an entire league.

Where was this outrage when Kershaw got snubbed last year? I don't have any trouble admitting that CK is in a league of his own and should have gotten the start, especially considering that Waino's first inning struggles are common knowledge, but hindsight is seriously 20/20 in this case.

Everyone knows how incompetent Matheny is now, though.

People making a big deal out of what should be an exhibition game. The All-Star game deciding home field advantage is stupid. It's something that should just be fun for fans and the players.

Looking active at the deadline. Whether or not Mozeliak pulls the trigger on a big deal or keeps his chips is anybody's guess.

Any potential deal for a big name all star would require losing any 2 of these players: Taveras, Wong, Grichuk, Piscotty, Gonzalez, and Martinez

Grichuk? Fine by me. I could see them using Piscotty maybe just because we're currently flush with outfielders. He's played well in the minors so far. Wong.... I'd like to see given more time.

Martinez I'm not sure about. He's flashed potential. I'm just not sure if he'll ever be a starter for us.

Taveras and Gonzalez? Heck no.

We've got a small problem of lack of playing space in the outfield. Holliday is on a contract through 2017 with a no trade clause. We just signed Craig through 2018. That leaves Jon Jay in center who is up for arbitration next year. I don't know if they want Taveras in center. He played that a lot in Memphis. But the only way to get him in right is to move Craig back to first. Where Matt Adams is.

I would put piscotty or grichuk in the package that would bring a Price or Tulo. The last major deadline trade that Mozeliak made was bringing in Holliday in 09 and the main prospect we sent out was Brett Wallace, who hasn't really panned out. I don't mind rolling the dice on Price or Tulo. We have a lot of prospects in our farm system that will entice any organization.

This.

We know what we will get in Price and Tulo.

Prospects are just that. For every Kershaw there are 100 Brett Wallaces.

I'd rather have Tulo but can't complain about either one. How about both? Haha

I absolutely agree. Losing one of our young OF prospects is the least of our worries.

The last time we traded away a prospect that I didn't agree with was the Danny Haren + Kiko Calero trade for Mark Mulder. I was fortunate enough to meet Haren in Memphis several times and I loved to watch that kid pitch. Although he has flashed pieces of brilliance in his career, the Cards were right in trading him. Unfortunately, Mulder could not stay healthy long enough.

That'd be fine, but it would take way more than that for Tulo or Price.

Tulowitski I never put any faith in. His name comes up with the Cards every year about this time.

Obviously it would take more than one but I'm fine with trading one of our OF prospects, not named Oscar.

I'm not buying the Tulo stuff as much as Price. I think we'll make a serious run at Price and then if that fails, make a run at Peavy or Kennedy. My prediction though is that we'll get a RH reliever at the deadline.
