Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

We got most of Beltran's production back from Peralta at SS where we got absolutely nothing last year.

This team as a whole had an offensive withdrawal compared to last year. Carpenter's ba was almost 50 points lower and he had 22 less doubles. Craig went from being the most clutch hitter in the MLB to being garbage at the plate. Molina missed a chunk of the year with injury and his offensive production dropped significantly.

And despite all that we had home field advantage in the NLCS and blew it. Beltran's production isn't a factor here.

I've seen enough of Matheny.

Apparently the front office either lied about the severity of Waino's health or were completely oblivious

I'm not thrilled with Matheny but he was actually was a little concerned about his arm. Mozeliak was the one that said he's fine.

After the Cardinals' ace, Adam Wainwright, battled through an injury-plagued season with concern about his health most recently expressed by Matheny during the playoffs (before the organization walked back the manager's statements), one of the topics of discussion was the fitness of the righthander's throwing elbow. Mozeliak told the media, as reported by Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, that Wainwright's throwing arm was fine and that the righty would not require offseason surgery

R.I.P. Oscar Tavares

We hardly knew you. Gone much too soon. Heartbreaking.

Well, with the passing of Taveras does anyone think the Cards will make some offseason moves to add help in the outfield? A spot was being held for Taveras.

Prior to Taveras' death I figured they may add some bullpen help and no major moves in the infield/outfield. But now, I don't see Bourjos or Grichuk being a long term solution to outfield.

I could definitely see them signing a RF with some pop. They were last in the NL in HR's last season. I was reading where they could be interested in Yasmani Tomas. They usually aren't big spenders but they spent big money signing fellow Cuban Aledmys Diaz in the Spring. I think it's more likely they'll go with a cheaper veteran with some power as a stopgap until Piscotty is ready. They could also use another LH relief pitcher.

There's Oscar's replacement. How in the world did we convince them to only take our 5th at best rotational pitcher. Miller was very inconsistent.

I did not see that move coming! I hate to part with Miller but it adds RF and a solid RP. Braves fans will be very happy with Miller in the rotation. He has potential to be a stud.

Heyward gets expensive in 2016 and has never really broken out at the plate like they hoped. His glove and plate discipline will never hurt you, but don't be shocked if he slugs like a middle infielder for long stretches.

He may only be a temporary replacement. I meant to state that earlier. His performance on the field will likely determine, whether or not STL wants to resign him, and there's money issues as well if the cards want to pay what he'll likely command.

I hate to see Shelby go but both teams got what they needed. I don't see why the Braves parted with one of their best offensive weapons considering they couldn't score runs last season. Whatever. Maybe Heyward will be alright.
