Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Signing McFarland is big. He was a huge piece out of that bullpen. Goold said earlier today that the Cardinals wanted to bring back 2 relievers and McFarland was one. I'd assume Garcia is the other. I wouldn't mind LeBlanc coming back either. I kinda want them to bring back Lester too.
I’d like to see Happ as well. Just bring Lester, Leblanc, and Happ back. With Waino Flaherty, in there with them, I think these guys can pull together again like they did down the stretch.

Anyone else expecting Pujols to sign in the coming weeks? With the DH coming to the NL, I’m expecting them to bring him back for a fair well tour with Yadi and Waino.

As of matter of fact, I’m anticipating for him to be signed as soon as possible. I’m also anticipating a veteran shortstop/batter to help this ball club for depth, and I think it’s the right thing to do.

I'm hoping the Cardinals go after Correa or Seager to play SS for us in 2022. Astros offered Correa like 5yrs/$160M. Seems like a slap in the face to him. I think the Cardinals could go higher than that. Not sure they will but the capability to do so.

Joe Kelly
Joe Kelly is a pretty good pitcher coming out of the bullpen. I thought he pitched pretty well down the stretch. He gives you innings, when your starter is having a bad day. He keeps you in games for a chance to win those. I’d sign him for a one year deal all day long.

frustrating. you can believe in gorman AND get a SS.

Edman, imo, is not a full time starter. paul "rob deere" dejong needs to go and i'm not a believer in sosa full time either.
Gorman I do believe in, but he isn’t ready with the team that we have right now. This team is becoming a veteran group together, and we need a veteran SS to complete it. Our outfield is a veteran group now. Right now our infield is loaded with veterans. Why would you not add a veteran SS? If you don’t, it will be very sad and frustrating.

If they bring in enough quality pitching, I’m ok with the current fielders. Let’s see what guys like Gorman and Yepez can do. They can always add at the trade deadline.

I'll be pretty angry if DeJong is the starting shortstop on opening day. He's not a starter anymore. I love how Mozeliak states there's "optimism" because of his past but then completely overlooks the steady decline in his numbers. Cardinals NEED to get one of Correa or Seager. I think they'll add some pitching too. I've heard the Cardinals have been pretty aggressive on the pitching side of free agency. Hope they add someone who will actually help like Stroman.

in stl now but not hearing any talk about castellanos, who i'd love to get him
my son thinks cards will push for schwarber.

i'm still neutral on SS question
main concern is upgrading pitching staff

So glad that you are in St. Louis with family again. Castellanos is an interesting thing going forward, because it would be nice for the Cards at least reach out to him. I’ve been anxiously waiting on them to really reach out to Max. Wouldn’t that be a glorious day for card fans.

i think scherzer would entertain an offer from STL, but ultimately thinks he ends up back with the dodgers or SF.

i think stroman is a cardinals when its all said and done

Steven Matz is also in play. He's supposed to make his decision any day. His high ground ball rate would be a perfect match.
Left-hander Steven Matz and the St. Louis Cardinals are in agreement on a four-year, $44 million contract, pending physical, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN. Matz is coming off a career-best season and has a chance to get to $48 million and will receive a signing bonus.
A late night snack just coming in. Jeff Passan reporting! Great move here.
