Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

Speaking of pitching, what are your takes on the pitching situation of the Cards. Is there hope?

Braden Looper = No hope

Hopefully Duncan can turn Kip Wells into a solid starter like he did with Jeff Suppan and Jeff Weaver (got them back on track, anyway).

Reyes needs to get it turned around... hopefully his start in the World Series last year is a sign of things to come.

No idea how Wainwright will do...

Basically, I won't complain if after Carpenter pitches, there are 4 rainouts in a row.

I assume Isringhausen will be healthy to close... not that that means anything.

I've been really out of the loop concerning baseball since it ended... I'll have to brush up with the SI Preview Issue in a few weeks.

Probable Rotation
Chris Carpenter- Will contend for another Cy Young
Kip Wells- 12-game winner
Anthony Reyes- Will probably struggle at times, but show flashes of brilliance
Adam Wainwright- Will emerge as the No. 2 starter before Mulder returns
Ryan Franklin or Braden Looper- Don't expect much, whoever it is

Looks like Looper is pretty much a lock for the rotation, at least until Mulder returns. He's actually had a very solid spring. Doesn't mean that much, but still...

Starting rotation is set.

Chris Carpenter
Adam Wainwright
Anthony Reyes
Kip Wells
Braden Looper

No lefty until Mulder gets back.

I'm guessing Mulder will take Looper's spot, eh?

Cards open up the season this Sunday night against the Mets. I'm getting borderline excited. :rock2:

Does it matter who I root for? That rotation is currently in the bottom half of the National League. Believe it.

Judging by the title of this thread, the Cardinals faired pretty well last year with a rag-tag rotation.

Doesn't matter who you cheer for, but given the results of last year's World Series, it seemed like something a NYY "fan" would say.

This rotation is worse than last years first of all.
Second, patching up part of a bad rotation by opening up another hole makes the bullpen worse than last year.
Third, the results have nothing to do with the Yankees.
Last, why is fan in quotations? Are you saying that because a team won multiple titles before 8 years ago they don't have any fans that were there before then

I guess you are.

Anyway, I refuse to believe any rotation that no longer has Jason Marquis is worse than a rotation with Jason Marquis.

No one said this was the best rotation in baseball, you came in here downgrading it like someone said they would dominate.

Also, the "junior circuit" comment screams of a bitter Yankee fan who is probably wishing he had the Cardinals pitching staff from last season in the playoffs.

Aren't you also a UNC apologist?

At one time I was a fan until they waitlisted me, but I haven't been an "apologist" for 4 years. Point being?

Just a Yankee fan who knows a lot about UNC. The only reason I said that is because due to the fact that there is this lovefest of a post, when you're at the top you must be torn down, right? I mean I've been getting the heat for a decade.

Fair enough. :)

Are you ready for game-by-game, wall-to-wall Cardinals updates? I know I am! :rock2:

In Carpenter we trust

:rock2:

Apparently all of the other starters have had a great Spring Training, too. Wainwright had like an .98 ERA.
