Official Thread of the St. Louis Cardinals

I mean no one said anything about it. It was the best play of the game, and there was a man on 2nd, 1 out, #2 hitter up, and they send Eck.

Play at the plate, 2 out. Then the Cards load the bases and get nothing out of it. That throw was the reason the Cards lost the game.

Sorry for bringing it up but I would assume people would be more apt to talk about the turning point of the game instead of bitching about the last two innings or that I would mention something bad that happened to the Cards. Sorry for being objective.

Yeah, that play killed the rally

It was on National TV, ESPN2. You had said it yourself, so I figured you would be watching it...And since it is a Cards thread, I figured I would talk about the Cards. But I guess we'll only talk about the selected parts of the game you want to talk about Tidwell. No wonder you think they are going back to the playoffs.

Look at the NL Central. The Cards will be back in the playoffs.

See what happens when you're actually successful?

I actually think that Cardinals fans are more so than we are. For the longest time the media has had a love affair with the city for no reason. I've been to many games and have many relatives who live in St. Louis and calling them the best fans is just not correct.

I saw first hand when they booed Tino Martinez, probably one of the biggest class acts in baseball history, after Walt Jocketty refused to even offer him a new contract. What great fans they are

You say I'm smug, but at least I watched your precious team's opening game, you could've cared enough to catch the highlights on SportsCenter. I would think that I'm having a conversation with educated fans, but I guess I'm asking too much.

This is all I needed out of you. When in doubt just criticize me for rooting for the Yankees. At least I am talking actual plays in the game.

I don't care about who has the best fans or what the best city is, the Cardinals are my favorite team and I could care less if anyone else pulled for them or how anyone else pulls for them.

I wish I could've watched more than 1 inning of the game, I really do. I'm also sorry that I didn't catch any highlights. I check the box score for every game and see what I want to see there. I believe they play again on TV on Wednesday and I should be able to watch that game and will be happy to discuss it with you, if you can lower yourself to talking to such an uneducated fan such as myself, that is.

I also apologize for the Yankees remark... but you must admit, like all teams, the Yankees have their share of bad/arrogant/smug/whatever you wanna call it fans.

I'm watching the Yankees, Posada just hit a HR. That make you happy?

The Cardinals were moving some guy named Pujols to first base. That could've contributed to Tino not receiving a contract offer after his two seasons in St. Louis.

Yeah, that play killed the rally

There was no rally to be killed by that play. Eckstein went for home hoping Beltran would make the safe play and keep Wilson from advancing to 2nd. Instead, Beltran made a perfect throw to home plate just in time to get Eckstein.

The Cardinals had their chances other than this play. They had bases loaded with Yadie at the plate in the 6th, and got nothing. Bases loaded, one out, with Scottie up in the 8th. Double play.

It was the first game of the season. The Cards didn't look good, but neither did the Detroit Tigers this afternoon. It's WAY too early to get worried. Carpenter will win the Cy Young. Pujols will win the NL MVP. The Cards will win the NL Central.

Any more questions or concerns regarding the game last night, UTCLA?

It killed it before it could happen.

I saw the replay after watching Smoltzy throw a nasty split to strikeout Myers.

It definately makes me happy because although they were praising him for having a great offensive year, but the truth is, he might be the most inconsistent batter the Yankees have. Good to see his power is still here, but it has gone down with age.

"The location of my fastball was horrible," Carpenter said. "When you don't make good pitches, you're falling behind in the count and you have to make quality pitches. You don't do that, and you get beat. That's what happened." (via stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com)

Cardinals didn't have a chance against Glavine. Like La Russa once said, if it's left-handed and has a pulse, they can't hit it.

Did I criticize Walt? No. I criticized the fans for booing.

Guys, don't yell at me. I'm just sad because the Yankees spend so much more money than any other MLB team, yet they can't win the World Series. I'm a bandwagon Yankees fan because they won a lot when I was a kid.

:cray:

:good!:

You were the one who marginalized my comment. I was throwing it out there for discussion and I got shot down. Twice. That was what set me off. I was trying to have a discussion about your team and apparently the play of the game was not worth talking about.

I never said anything about how the Cards looked. I just said that if they didn't send a marginal runner on a CF with an incredible arm, they would've made the game competitive with a lot more innings left.

If you want to start it up with me Clowers, be my guest. No need to try to take it to me and be a dick.

Don't be mad that St. Louis is the best city to play baseball. How many times have Yankees fans booed their own players? Numerous. And you point out one instance of Cardinals fans doing this, which I don't remember ever happening.

They just booed A-Rod earlier today after he struck out and now the D-Rays just tied it up. Enter more boos

Neither do I, but I'm sure that's because we're uneducated fans more than anything.

So, the fans started boo'ing Tino after Walt didn't offer him a new contract?

Why would they boo him is my point. It is not as though he spurned them to go to the Yankees. They signed him for cheap and although he did not produce, it is not as though he was expected to do much. He was 35 when he signed with them.

I'm confused by it too. Dunno why they'd boo him.
