Official Watch Party Thread (NCAAT seeding edition)

Not sure about that. There seem to be more teams crowding around the 3 line and from good conferences where bigger wins than Arkansas exist. Again that’s kind of the point of this thread to discuss
Metric wise we beat those teams…

I’ll take the Wisconsin win, Purdue was the last 2 seed and they don’t exactly have a great opportunity to close out the year for a big W. This loss doesn’t hurt them but it again closes the gap for Tennessee and a 2 seed. Yes it increases the chances of Wisconsin potentially passing us, but 1. We already were ahead of them pre Auburn, we got the big win at home similar to their tonight, should stay ahead 2. I think beat Arkansas and you easily stay ahead.

Also would like to point out how Purdue is another in a long line of top ten team teams who lose on the road…
Purdue is also an overrated Big 10 team that doesn’t play a lick of defense and only cares about offense. They have the 102nd ranked defense in the country. Look at KenPom and you won’t see another team inside it’s top 25 in the 100s of AdjD. The SEC and Big 12 have 3 teams each inside the top 10 of AdjD. Matter of fact the SEC and Big 12 make up 44% of the top 25 in AdjD. Those are the two best conferences but the media loves pushing that underachieving conference up north. The Big 10 plays no defense. Only 1 Big 10 team has a top 25 defense and that’s Indiana at 19th.

With our win tonight it’s hard to see us falling past a 4 seed, we needed some help to climb to a 2 and Purdue losing did just that, I’d have taken Providence over Villanova too but then again the split of those 2 games may have been a good thing, opens up door for a 2 but also likely lock in a 4.

Is that not what I’m doing? Discussing? I’ve given my opinion that I don’t think you have to win a conference tournament to keep on the 3-line. It seems like it would be rather shocking to see us fall off the 3 if our only two losses after the bracket reveal were @ Arkansas and in the Semis or Final of the SECT.

Again, just my opinion, but that seems a little far-fetched that we’d be punished that harshly.

Sorry I got caught up in your comment “keep winning and it won’t matter”. “Just win” precludes any conversation about what our floor might be, which is part of the equation when we’re discussing who to cheer for. That was brought up originally about this game.

That’s fine. I think I’m just a little more optimistic than you are about the committee’s perception of us in this moment in time. I’m strangely not nervous about keeping a 3-seed if we win Saturday. It would just seem IMO to be very harsh for the committee to knock us back all the way to a 4 if we don’t win the SEC Tournament, especially with how teams behind us like Illinois, UCLA, Providence, and OSU keep losing.

And also winning Saturday means we beat Arkansas, one of the only other teams that would have a chance of passing us.

I feel good about it too, but never know. Still a lot of basketball left

Wisconsin is now 8-3 in Q1 with Ls in Q2 and Q3

I would say all things considered that is about even with our 7-7 Quad 1 record.

Purdue is 7-5 in Q1 with 1 loss in Q2

Villanova is 7-6 in Q1 with 1 loss in Q2

Texas Tech is identical to us but beat us head to head

It is almost crazy how close those resumes are.

Sadly I think the Villanova and TTU pass us on head to head. Wisconsin and Purdue near dead even as well.

Definitely have to beat Arky to keep pace

Tonight’s games:
Texas A&M vs. Alabama
UCONN vs. Creighton
Auburn vs. Mississippi State
LSU
vs. Arkansas
Kind of a random one, but we should cheer for Xavier over St. John’s tonight. St. John’s is currently #75 in the NET, 1 spot over Colorado. If we could just get the Buffs to get their chin over the bar here we get another Q1 win.

Also I don't understand how Houston is #4 in the NET. They have as many Quad 1 wins as 0-23 Delaware State. #285 ranked Cal State Bakersfield has even managed to get a Quad 1 win. They are 0-3 vs. Quad 1…does this make sense to anybody else?

The predictive component. Those ratings like Houston
