Official WBB NCAA tournament thread 2024

Other then James will need to step up. Also Texas inability to convert on all the offensive put backs really hurt them. NC St had no answer for that.
River and James are a ferocious backcourt tandem who can give any team left absolute fits. SC is one of the few who can match up. I think if any team upsets SC, however, it will be NCST.

I’m pulling for South Carolina to finish what they started but looking for pao to go off since she was cold today

Who had both N.C. State Women's and Men's teams going to FF.
Reminds me of the year Syracuse managed to get both MBB & WBB in the FF in 2016. That was like my first March Madness living in Syracuse and for one whole weekend orange was EVERYWHERE. I still remember the t-shirts. "Double Date to the FF".

Didn't end so well for either team, but ... 😁

Or DJ Burns being this kind of star when he left here 40 lbs ago. And to get it by obliderating Duke of all people. What a cinderella story NCST men are.

I know. Depressing to think that we could have been the school with both teams in. Jackson and Knecht just needed a little more help. Admittedly, to get the ladies in, have to extrapolate from NC State's subsequent wins over Stanford and Texas, but we know it doesn't necessarily work that way.

Sportwriters and broadcasters likely crying over the lost angle of not one but two Cinderella stories (Knecht & Burns)...and one of those being a former Tenn recruit. Add in the coaches' stories chasing a championship, especially Barnes, and the narratives are golden.

Tenn men could have had a Four matchup with a #11 seed. Best chance ever to reach the title game.

Wasn't meant to be.

It's funny (NOT funny) how for all the billions of dollars spent, the analytics, the huge viewership, etc., sometimes basketball still comes down to who has the tallest player. Boring as hell, uncontested layup after uncontested layup. Or foul. Meh. It was fun when an actual basketball game broke out around that, but otherwise felt like a let down. Lucky for them they got Andre the Giant.

For anyone to overcome that, they're going to have to shoot the lights out from 3 and the Vols didn't do that tonight.

If Aidoo had been able to hit more of those little mid rangers and force Edey to play some defense, the game would have looked different. 40 pt is an outlier even for him.

And ZZ did the whole, I’m going to drive into the trees and have a turnover, or I’m going to keep shooting and missing, instead of passing to an open Knecht, felt like dejavu.

ZZ, like JP did a couple of times, decided he'd be brave enough to try himself to make good things happen and hopefully start a winning run by continuing to go at it, only it never worked out like he desperately wanted it to. Sometimes when a player makes that decision to be willing to take those risks it works out and the team is energized and inspired by it and rolls on to a solid victory because of it.

And then sometimes they just keep trying and trying but are never able to break through no matter how desperately they want to help their team. When a hardworking player shows a willingness to risk getting blamed by everyone if they fall short, I have always thought that to be the one of the noblest, and most beautiful, aspects of sport.

Love both ZZ and JP for being that kind of people. 🧡🧡

Yes, good intentions are great, but when you keep shooting and missing, and have several turnovers in a row, maybe you should change tactics, and pass to a person who has been shooting well.

I don't disagree at all. Just saying sometimes you keep trying and it eventually turns and works out, and sometimes it doesn't. It obviously never turned today and I'm super sad for him. Dang. What a season though!

Watching a team score like 1/2 their points from the FT line isn't watching a basketball game, it's watching FT practice. Booooor-innnnggggg.
