'25 OG USC transfer Emmanuel Pregnon (Oregon)

If you don’t want them to play their high school recruits then don’t freak out about recruiting ever again. Also, Heard was a RS Freshman last season. He can improve. Big offseason for him.
I don’t usually cry over HS recruiting since we don’t usually see the kids till their Jr year anyways

We only cry over the portal around here😎

I still do. If we are sitting here in 12 days and that hasn’t happened something didn’t come through as planned.

And as of today everything is still on the table for it to happen.
Awesome. Really appreciate the update and info. Always much appreciated. Feel a bit better now.

Starting on July 1, this year, NIL as we know it today will change drastically.
Universities will have $20.5 million to dole out to their athletes. Supposedly, about $16 million will be allocated to football and then the remaining money will be allocated to the other sports. Ohio State football players will have to take a big hit from todays standard :) :) :)

NIL will become just that, outside agencies signing players to contracts for their name, image and likeness--not pay for play.

Who knows where this will shake out because lawyers will line up for the ensuing court filings. Best thing to do is just sit back and watch it all unfold.

I've already bought enough popcorn to last all year.
That will never happen unless the athletes unionize and collective bargaining is implemented. Since there is no union to collectively bargain the above, I call shenanigans.

I don't buy that we aren't offering the same amount of money or that we can't make it financially competitive. I mean look at how much we've invested in the infrastructure and facilities over the years, and we're constantly at the top 10 or 15 when it comes to revenue, even in the down years. Those are all indicators to me that the money is there somewhere.

The general thought is that because we spend less on NIL than other teams, that it means we're offering less. Could it be that we aren't able to close the better prospects and have to settle for the weaker prospects with lower price tags, therefore appearing as if we spend less or are willing to spend less?

I could be completely wrong, but I just haven't seen much evidence to suggest that Heupel is a closer for quality talent and top tier guys other than maybe 1 or 2 guys a year and some of those guys seem to be more DL players who come because of Rodney Garner, and it feels like we're using NIL as an excuse. I dunno, just my 2 cents.
Really. Closing usually means you make a bigger offer.
It’s 2025 . Just how it is now.

Yeah I don't buy that. Maybe it's because i work in corporate sales operations in tech that ranges in the $10s of millions, so I know how those deals go down and it isn't always the best deal financially (while it's still a key factor).

But for the sake of argement let say in your example we just keep getting outbid. If entity A offers $1m and the entity B offers $1.1m, if the player connects with entity A and feels like that'll be the best path for success, you really think that $100k is that big of a hurdle to overcome? It's a simplistic example but that's what I'm getting at.

And I'm not saying that all prospects think like this, they are high school kids after all. But it feels like I hear the excuse of someone outbid us on this board way more than I feel like I should. And it's not like our staff other than Rodney Garner have ever had a reputation for being stellar recruiters, even before NIL.

But maybe we'll never really know how it all goes down, and again I could be COMPLETELY WRONG. Maybe I'm also just pessimistic because I'm always surrounded by Account Executives (basically corporate sales people) who always make BS excuses, I just don't buy that we're losing this recruiting battles solely because of money.

That's right. And any deal over $600 will have to go through a vetting and a clearinghouse to assess it's validity.
This could get interesting really quick, unless lawyers sue everything and everyone

I try to keep negativity to myself nowdays, but I will say this:

OL scares the hell out of me next year. We essentially have 4 unknowns and a very Jekyll and Hyde LT. Year 5 and still are going to have a lot of ?’s on OL. Im sure Heup has a plan, but I hope that the OL development is better than it seems.

It's not gonna change anything. Collectives will still exist. Top players will still get offered exorbitant deals from school boosters.

Oh I don’t place all the blame on fans. But a big chunk? Yes. I find it hard to believe we don’t have say 200k fans who could afford say $25/month. Hell most people spend twice that much at Starbucks every week.

Since we don’t have the big money men, why can’t the fans step up a little bit more?
Then AD should ask FANS to donate.

Saban did at Bama. UGA beached about last year and this yr LSU and others complained to their fan base. So White should ask fans for help.

The avg fan doesn’t know 💩 about Spyree.

They have to be ready for a lot of people being “offended” that he would ask for money. Im a little tired of the donation plate myself. All this started because the NCAA and schools wouldn’t give the guys a few bucks a month or Even let them get a part time job.

I mean they’re literally charging a 10% talent fee on sales now. You’re hard pressed to find tickets under $100 for the crappy games and now they’re making them more expensive. I’m not complaining, but it probably wouldn’t be the best of looks for him if he then turns around and starts begging for cash.
