I don't see how you look at the ass-kicking Pearl is about to get and come up with that punishment.

I don't think the NCAA is going to very impressed by the "Hey, lets throw out some window dressing sanctions and see if that appeases them" approach going forward.I was discussing this with someone in the other thread. I think Pearl needs to go, but I don't think minor violations compare to ignoring your players breaking rules. I like Tressel, so I'm a little saddened by this.
What if they handle it like Tennessee and potentially cut him lose later?
Tressel's suspension is a joke!! He has to miss the Akron & Toledo games. All suspensions should start being conference games and not the BS filler games like these. Might help with some of the players too if they new they would miss a conference game.
I know. It's sooooo lame. I can't stand Ohio state, but since alot of the sports media whent there they get a million free passes.

Bet the NCAA wishes that they had suspended Pryor and his buds for the bowl game
This is just the school's punishment. Like when UT prohibited BP from recruiting and took $1,000,000 from his salary.
tOSU will still get it from the NCAA.
When you violate amateurism rules, you're technically ineligible until the 'AA reinstates you. The 'AA reinstated them, with the suspensions, after Ohio State reported. Thus, those guys played a whole season in which they weren't eligible under the rules. The one point someone bought up in the other thread is the players weren't ruled ineligible, were they? Would that make a difference?
All right, thanks for clarifying. In that case, this sounds a lot like Todd McNair at USC, which means it could be ugly. When you violate amateurism rules, you're technically ineligible until the 'AA reinstates you. The 'AA reinstated them, with the suspensions, after Ohio State reported. Thus, those guys played a whole season in which they weren't eligible under the rules.
Mistake on my part. I thought that was a self imposed deal. What did Tennessee impose upon itself?
