Ohio State in More Trouble (merged)

they both knowingly broke the rules, and lied about it.

I think Pearl deserved the off campus recruiting restriction because his violation actually involved recruiting. I guess they could have given that to Tressel, but suspending him from 2 games probably evens it up...The major difference is in the wallet, Tressel is getting off a lot easier than CBP did in that area.

No, it's not. I'd be stunned if that is what makes the difference to the NCAA.

I think UT's financial penalty on CBP was pretty hefty. you disagree?

In comparison, tOSU's seems light. I don't have the figures in front of me, but I'm certain that Tressel makes around double what Pearl pulls in per season, yet is being penalized about 20 percent of what CBP is.

They think a two game suspension and a financial tap on the wrist is enough for knowingly playing ineligible players? Sooner or later, somebody's going to wise up and realize the Mark Emmert led 'AA isn't fooling around.

I only hope it's sooner than later, and forfieting the 2011 games

What's even funnier is that they think suspending Tressel from games against Akron and Toledo is an apt punishment.

I found it quite humorous that they conveniently arranged for Tressel to be back on the job as usual Week 3 for their game at Miami.

"In May of 2009, The Columbus Dispatch reported that since 2000, Ohio State had reported to the NCAA more than 375 violations -- the most of any of the 69 Football Bowl Subdivision schools that provided documents to the newspaper through public-records requests. Most of the infractions were minor and resulted in little or no punishment."

Taken from ESPN Jim Tressel gets two-game ban for NCAA violation - ESPN. It is ridiculous that UT is going through what it is going through when Ohio St repeatedly gets nothing.

I don't disagree with you regarding the difference in financial penalties. I just think the NCAA will care little about what amounts to a financial break for the schools. That's why I focused on Tressel getting two games and Pearl getting a one-year recruiting suspension. If it's going to be games vs recruiting, then I don't think 2 games is a large enough counter-weight, especially if you believe playing ineligible players is worse than a minor recruiting violation.

what would Ohio States record be for last year without those players.Just look at GA without Green looks like was thinking of himself.

OSU will be just like UConn. After the game today, Calhoun was interviewed and not a peep about the AA sanctions.

ohio state is untouchable.

Thats understandable. I don't really know what the balance is...off campus recruiting is invaluable, but coaching and winning the games is the overall goal?

OSU to NCAA: Bottom line, violation was more a matter of indecisiveness "as opposed to blatant disregard of NCAA legislation."

Was not until OSU legal counsel found e-mail strings in Tressel's computer in January that he had to confess prior knowledge.

Also, Tressel was specifically asked in December of his knowledge of these players' activities. Hemmed and hawed, denied he got specific tip

OSU says Tressel signed compliance form in Sept. saying he had no knowledge of any possible violations..... 39 minutes ago via TweetDeck

cant say much about this since we have the same problem with Pearl. But this is stupid that he's suspended for two games that are easily winnable without a coach at all on the sidelines.

two schools i really hope go down the drain, Ohio State, and USC. both have been in trouble recently, hopefully the NCAA wont be as friendly to them as ESPN
