'24 OK EDGE Danny Okoye (OK commit)

Anyone have an idea of space we’d save/have for the portal? Is that a post season thing once we figure out areas to plug. I only ask if we just add this guy and maybe wingo do We just portal shop unless something on the flip front comes up?

Gotta see who leaves via portal first

Not sure on Saleapaga because we’re going to need at least one portal TE. I’d say Seaton has a spot on that list for sure. He might be in my top three biggest wants with Cole and Okoye.

I’d go with Cole, Okoye, and Amaris Williams because we need an interior DL in this class. Next tier would be Bates, Seaton, and Wingo.

Agree on TE...I think a rotation of Davis, E. Okoye, Nichols and a decent transfer TE would be really good...three young and highly talented guys to go with a vet with 1-2 years of eligibility left sounds just right to me

Echols will be a true freshman and Okoye will likely need another year to learn the game. We need a plug and play portal guy for sure, and probably another high school commit.

I just saw that we have 19 players on the Senior Bowl watch list. That doesn't include every scholarship senior on the roster. I think we have something like 32 scholarship seniors. I'm sure some have the ability to come back, but that is still potentially 32 spots before any portal entries or players leaving early for the NFL. I only see 2 possibly leaving early for the draft with big seasons (Jaylen Wright and Thornton). That still could leave us a lot of room to add to this class, because there will definitely be a few transfers. We could feasibly add 6-7 more high school commits and still have room to add 6-7 portal guys

A lot will be on how many guys the coaches allow to use a Covid year. It will be an experience vs. upgraded talent scenario. They've had to try and hold on to as much experience as possible so far because we essentially lost a whole recruiting class with the '21 class. They're still not over the hump there, but the roster is immensely more talented from top to bottom than what they inherited. They will have to continue to have a high success rate through the portal for the near future. This year's portal pick ups look to all be hits from camp reports. Thornton(WR), Lally(DB), Pili(LB), Campbell(OT), Karic(OG), Castles(TE), Norman-Lott(DL), Campbell(PK) will all either start or play significant snaps for us immediately.

Coaches have to approve a player taking a Covid year? Didn’t know that. But I like it.

This isn’t a Beckworth situation. This kid can play several positions and is a blank slate to learn.
I believe you may be confused about the Okoye in this post. Emmanuel Okoye is currently on the roster that is the blank slate and he is currently learning tight end position. Danny Okoye is currently a high prospect in Oklahoma that we are recruiting to play edge.

I’m not but you had me thinking a bit. This Okoye is seen as a project to I think correct? He plays in a really weak highschool football division. That was something similar to Becksworth.
Again, it’s been a hell of a work week for me and my brain isn’t working at full speed. I could be getting people confused. I’m at spring practice speed right now. I need to step it up. I know. Ha ha

Yes, Danny Okoye plays in a home school league, but definitely isn't viewed as a project. The only thing he will have to adapt to is the level of competition, but that's the case with every freshman in the country. The other Okoye (Emanuell) was first introduced to American football about a year ago. This kid is nothing like Dee Beckwith either. Beckwith was a physical specimen, but he was soft as Charmin and primarily a basketball player. If you watch Danny Okoye's highlights, he plays the game like a borderline sociopath.
