Oklahoma UPSET ALERT

No, but OU -14.5 is my guess.

Sounds about right. I think it might be a little higher. I think these teams that have a legitimate shot at the playoff will be running up the scores even more than usual trying to make a statement.

So how many of you who are saying this is a crazy prediction had VT beating OSU? Or had McNeese State almost beating Nebraska? How many of you predicted Temple to thump Vandy last week? Answer, none of you.

Any given Saturday.

I put 50$ on Va Tech to cover.

OSU isn't the same team without Miller and they lost Shazier and Roby to the first round of the draft off defense along with Hyde at RB.

You must have been too busy scolding negavols on here to notice.

Oklahoma wouldn't let up anyways. Stoops has ragged the sec for awhile and now will (try to) back it up.

Check out landthieves.com. some dude as hellvol is claiming to be a vol fan and he's ripping us. If he's on this board he should be ripped. He sounds like a cubs fan that has never seen his team win a thing.

I'm happy with the first two wins but if Tennessee can't put up at least 170 yards on the ground this game wont even be close.

Eh... I think you use our receivers to dink and dunk them to death. That should open up the run game a little. But with guys like North (who is tough to bring down), Pearson (who is shifty), Malone (who has great top speed) and Croom (who is a bad matchup for about anybody), I see no reason why you don't throw hitches and slants all night until they stop it. That way, the ball is released quickly, which takes pressure off of the o line and their secondary has to adjust to it. There's no reason on any given day that Worley can't go for 400 yards.

Let's not give up on the season if we lose this game.... unbelievable how some think we can win 10 games........

I agree with you Vol_guy. Beating Oklahoma would be about the Worst thing that could happen to this program right now. If we have any modicum of success this year, then some of the idiots around here will start putting expectations on Butch and the players in the future. How did that work out with Dooley and Cuanzo, negavols?! Hope you're Happy!!!

Just win some of the games we're supposed to win and lose all of the games we're supposed to lose.

Hey Vols. Watched parts of your game against Ark. St. Not great, but you can tell the potential is there. If you can string together a couple of Bowl games the next few years, I think your program will be floating to the upper tiers of the SEC. For those of you that weren't able to catch any of the Oklahoma game, I'll post highlights later for anyone interested. So far, this is the only one that has made it to YouTube.

I'm sad to say, but the way the OL is playing....not doing anything to open holes for our RB's...this is going to be a long season. Thanks Dooley (for having a class with NO OL signed at all).

That is our most glaring weakness. I was optimistic before the season started, but now I'm resigned to the same fears many had, about this line. Crowder is a bit undersized (saw one Utah State DL own him on one play....slinging him on his back and making the sack....yeah, Utah State).

And I don't get how the staff can make Blair such a high priority in recruiting, then basically bench him once he gets here. If it's foot work and technique that is lacking, how did they not see this, when evaluating him in the recruiting process?

Didn't Herbstreit put Alabama on upset alert vs UT last year? It was 35-0 at the half.

I was at the last UT - Oklahoma game. It was January 1968, in the Orange Bowl...all the hype was centered around the Vols AA center Bob Johnson v. OUs AA nose tackle Granville Liggins going head to head.

The Sooners went out to a 19-0 lead at the half. The Vols rallied behind QB Dewey Warren and had a chance for the with. But Karl Kremser's FG just was left of the upright and OU hung on for a 26-24 win. Those were the great days of Tennessee Vols football.

I'm not calling upset, but I think we'll compete. If our defense plays with the passion they have it'll keep it close.

The key to this game is for our Offense to keep the ball long enough to get our Defense a break. 3 and outs with and uptemp offense will kill our D.

That being said. Go Big Orange.

Lol. A couple of years? Guess you don't realize where teams tend to turn it around. It's in recruiting. And we are bringing in as good as talent as anyone in the nation the last 2 years. I'll concede Norman due to our teams youth, but Oklahoma will have a hard time leaving Knoxville with a victory next year. After that, Stoops will hope like hell to never see a Butch Jones coached team until he retires.

This is why I would almost rather run and gun with Oklahoma. They have tended to struggle with fast teams in the past. We aren't going to be able to outpower them, so why even try. Put Worley in shotgun and let him sling the ball around all game. JMO.

After watching the game yesterday, the oline is gonna have a long Saturday night next week. Now with the injuries it makes things worse for sure. Von is a key player and I don't think Malone is anywhere near the playmaker Von is(at this point in his career). Our D would keep it close and respectable, but with the injuries, bad qb protection and run blocking vs ark st its gonna be tough. I hope I'm wrong, I hope we have a vast playbook and the coaches were holding back-even though the team is full of freshman, and most of the players have never started a game till this year. But what do I know, I just work at a crap plant.

Agree. Pretty much from here on out, with the exception of UTC and Vandy, we're gonna face stronger and better front 7s than our OL, just the way it is. Fling it all over the place to the strength of our team, our WRs. Use screens and short passing game as extended running plays and let running game augment 45-50 passes per game. Don't fight it, get better with it, execute what you do best better this season which is throwing the ball. Defense is better and should help keep us in games to some extent. Throw it, throw it and throw it some more.

IF the vols have a chance to upset Oklahoma on a national stage they will have to take care of the fundamentals. 1. Limit the penalties. 2. Protect the football. 3. Execute in the special teams. I honestly believe that if the vols can keep the game within 10 with 8 minutes or so to go in the 3rd then they have a chance. The biggest thing I am looking for is the vols to be competitive and not lay down if something does not go their way! Oklahoma is a very good team! However, games are not played on paper!

Why do some people insist that "any given Saturday" or "puncher's chance" are valid arguments for actual predictions? Possibility? Ok...but any real probability? Not so much. It's closer to playing russian roullette with the odds reversed, all the chambers hot except one. Is it possible to get the "click" instead of the "bang"? Sure...you want to have that pointed at your head? Didn't think so.

We have some players that are Oklahoma (pretty much anybody really) level. We do not have a team with their level players yet, especially along the lines. Having said that we're young and promising in a lot of areas. We just brought in a fine class and as I type this we're #7 on Rivals with 10 4* or better recruits, 5 of which are lineman.

Patience is not a particularly common attribute among sports fans. There is no rational reason to EXPECT us to beat Okahoma, certainly not in their house, not with this team. It's nice to think it COULD happen, but it's nicer, IMHO, to think it might not be much longer before we can change that "could" win to "should" win.
