Oklahoma vs WV

There goes a perfect example of why Bobby Bowden was pissed the other day for his player getting the flag for jumping into the endzone. Why did WV not get called for it?

think this covers your scenario from getting the Offense free yards

ARTICLE 2. a. The impetus imparted by a player who kicks, passes, snaps or fumbles the ball shall be considered responsible for the ball’s progress in any direction even though its course is deflected or reversed after striking the ground or after touching an official or a player of either team

Wow, so if you interpreted "responsible for" in the same way they did in this game, the scenario I just posted would be the proper call. :eek:hmy:

That's a horrible rule. Seriously.

I don't agree. If they changed that to the way it sounds like you'd like to see it, then one could coach their players to always just knock fumbles toward the end zone rather than recover the ball, b/c the worst that could happen is a safety if the other team recovers. I don't want to see that.

Again, doesn't matter. When the ball just hits a guy on the receiving team it becomes a live ball. Possession isn't established, but the kicking team can recover.

Right, but since OU recovered, it was a touchback. Plenty of times you'll see the same on kickoffs. The receiver muffs it into the endzone then takes a knee. But if possesion is established in the field, it would be a safety.

Im glad I didn't put money on this one. I would have picked OU. I thought they had a good team. wow

Had he not dove, he likely would have been tackled short of the endzone.

It would seem the ref determined that a defender was close enough to tackling him that it wasn't showboating? :dunno:

So what in that details that the WVU player became "responsible" for the ball going into the endzone? I read it that the fact that it "struck" him doesn't matter, but the OU player is still "responsible" for the ball's progress. ??? :dunno: I'm so confused.

Rwemyss, seems to me like what you are missing is the fact that the ball was going the opposite direction of the WVU player, and when he attempted to pick it up, changed its course forcing it into the endzone, making him responsible for it's change of direction. That's how I see it anyway.

What I want to know is, did anyone else think about the PR that was muffed against USC by OU on that one? Looked almost identical. Me and my buddy still call that the dumbest play we've ever seen.

I was referring to your fumble by the O getting knocked back into the endzone not turning into a touchback, it would be a safety.

Since the OU returner muffed the ball, then it got knocked into the endzone by WV, then recovered by OU, it's a touchback. If he had caught it, then fumbled with the same sequence of events, it would have been a safety.

Please don't make me read more! I learned enough already! :)

He plays in a 2 team conference, he should do well. Doesn't look so well in BCS games so far.

If your defense isn't getting the job done you can do two things.

1. Aggressively try to score points
2. Lose

I'm not saying it was a good call, but I think Stoops realizes he isn't going to slow down Pat White anytime soon. His best bet is to score 40.

I think WVU had the ball twice in the second half and did nothing with it prior to that call. Momentum had completely swung to OU before the kick. I think it was a very very unncessary and bad call.

Like I was saying... Those OU safeties are horrible. The Sooners are good at stopping the run, but not tonight.

Momentum. West Virginia recovering an onsides kick is not what made Darius Reynaud and Noel Devine faster than everyone else.

That ship just sailed about 3 minutes ago.
